Better be careful overdoing Parsons at DE

I thought the Cowboys did a great job last year in maximizing production out of Parsons due to his swiss army knife skill set. A lot of LBr in base downs and pass rusher in nickel / dime downs.

This year they are clearly playing him at DE a LOT more this year and I think they're playing with fire. He's a LBr that is a great pass rusher...he is not a great DE due to his size and limitations against the run. He isn't built for it. Opposing O's have already starting running right at him and their seeing a lot of success. We're giving up 5 yards per carry (tied for 4th worst in the league) and have given up 20 runs of 10+ yards.

Good teams with quality OLs are going to get the blueprint out for our defense IMO if we don't adjust.

That’s what we try to say but get vilified if we don’t want him as a DE every down. He’s not that, he’s 235-240 he’s a LB we have to accept that.

Obviously on clear passing downs we want him rushing the passer, but other than that there’s no reason he should have his hand in the dirt trying to set an edge. He’s too small and all that wear leaves him susceptible to injury.

Keep moving him around DQ!

100%…

Keep doing it and we’re probably looking at another SF type playoff game.

I tend to agree! They really should manage his snap count at DE.

It’s been pretty obvious that Parsons is looking tired. He’s been taking on a lot of double teams. He hasn’t had a sack in two games and missed a sack on Carson Wentz last week. He looked exhausted out there and appeared to have a back issue. If he doesn’t come up with a sack tomorrow everyone’s going to start wondering what’s wrong with him. He came out of the gates fast this season with four sacks in his first two games.

I have zero concerns about his pass rush. Sacks aren't the end all be all...he's still getting pressures like crazy which is leading to incompletions and other players getting sacks.

He is starting to tire it’s become evident. Although he hasn’t registered a sack in a couple of games he’s still very disruptive. He’s also caused a lot of false starts. He opens up pass rush opportunities for other players. I just don’t want to see us sticking him at DE too often.

..when Dallas had already won the game. He was put back in on last series of downs. It didnt matter had they scored, we were ahead by 11.

Micah looked blasted. How can anyone effect the game while exhausted?

MN they move him around ALOT, yea mostly at DE but not ALL the time. He's a great Player on Defense not a LBr. He's our best pass rusher as well. He's a utility guy on D. Use him however benefits the D

Most of the second half last week he was standing on the field with his hands on his hips sucking air. He appeared to be in some discomfort coming off the field after one series, not sure if it was an injury or he was just tired.

I agree. Last year, it was a necessity for Micah to rush off the edge for a couple games...this year not so much. The DEs are healthy and the only problem is getting everyone proper reps.

Playing Micah more in the middle would help in the running game. I don't know if this is the game to do more balancing of Parsons in the middle considering the Rams OTs are trash, but against the Eagles I could definitely see the value.

I am agreeing with this assessment. I love Micah as a pass rusher but he is not developing his LB skill. At some point he will be locked in as a DE and he won't survive there. Teams are devoting an extra blocker or two to him.

OP is right, Parsons needs to continue to be a wild card. We need guys like Sam Williams and Gholston to step up at the point of attack against the run. Broaddus is usually wrong when evaluating the Cowboys but I would like to see what the Cowboys do with Kearse and Wilson together again. I still believe Cowboys are playing a defense that is willing to give up some runs because they want to keep their speed on the field. I also don’t see a team like the Rams running the football 40 times with Akers and Henderson.
