Better be careful overdoing Parsons at DE

So you’d rather have Parsons try to set the edge as a DE on a run play than chase and tackle as a LB?

And if your answer is yes, do you honestly think a 235 pound player can do that consistently? Especially when we saw Washington run right at him successfully last week?

We play hybrid defenses and it’s working. They don’t need to change anything.

I will leave it up to Quinn and the coaching staff to decide where and when to play him.
And to determine what matchups are the best for him to succeed.

All opinions otherwise means squat to me. But some are interesting to read. To see different approaches from non coaches.

Worst post ever.....you shouldn't need me to tell you that this ain't high school

It’s not the worst post ever. If you knew anything about his time at Penn State you would know it was questioned as to why they moved parsons to LB in the first place and were planning to use him at DE until Covid and he decided to sit out a season.

Also people have been in this thread calling LB his “natural position” which isn’t really true.

Furthermore, Parsons is basically the same size as Von Miller who is a 3-4 OLB which is effectively the same thing as a DE in the modern NFL.

Regardless it doesn’t matter if you label Parsons a Lb or DE. He is an edge rusher. One of the best in the entire NFL. And he has been edge rushing since high school.

Fortunately the coaches are smart enough to see what I knew in week 2 of last year.

It took them an entire off-season to catch up to my brilliance but at least they caught up.

It’s been pretty obvious that Parsons is looking tired. He’s been taking on a lot of double teams. He hasn’t had a sack in two games and missed a sack on Carson Wentz last week. He looked exhausted out there and appeared to have a back issue. If he doesn’t come up with a sack tomorrow everyone’s going to start wondering what’s wrong with him. He came out of the gates fast this season with four sacks in his first two games.
Parcells would say the same thing but the Cowboys like to throw out common sense. Like depending on so many young players and rooks. Its dumb it doesnt work.

I thought the Cowboys did a great job last year in maximizing production out of Parsons due to his swiss army knife skill set. A lot of LBr in base downs and pass rusher in nickel / dime downs.

This year they are clearly playing him at DE a LOT more this year and I think they're playing with fire. He's a LBr that is a great pass rusher...he is not a great DE due to his size and limitations against the run. He isn't built for it. Opposing O's have already starting running right at him and their seeing a lot of success. We're giving up 5 yards per carry (tied for 4th worst in the league) and have given up 20 runs of 10+ yards.

Good teams with quality OLs are going to get the blueprint out for our defense IMO if we don't adjust.

He's not playing defensive end in a traditional 4-3 alignment, he's playing OLB in a 3-4 hybrid
just like Von Miller. The people upset here are the people last year who fought
to keep him as an inside 4-3 shed and scrape LB most of the time, because Quinn made it work in his transition to the edge.

Micah Parsons is an edge player and a pass rush specialist and that's where he will spend the rest of his career, get over it

Nope. Keep sending him. It’s his natural position.

Playing linebacker and dropping into coverage is just some side trick he’s ok at.

Rushing is what makes him special.
It’s not his natural position because he’s sub 245. He’s carried a WR multiple times now, he’s better than ok at it.

Pass rush is a big part of the winning formula in the NFL. Don't tweak what Parson is great at.

I think he gets held a lot of the time. Refs not throwing a flag lets lineman get away with muggings.

In what world is playing LB and coming downhill and filling holes not violent and physical? Playing LB is easily 1 of the most physically demanding positions. Plus it’s football, any player can get hurt on any play regardless of position. He’s a game changer as a pass rusher, keep him doing that

You know he’s played linebacker and has been nothing special but as a Rush End has been incredible right?

He was DPOY as a LBr as a rookie. What in the world are you talking about!

Has nothing to do with being violent and physical. It has to do with him being too small and lacking the length to be an above average run defender as a DE.

He's a crazy talent obviously, and can be a superstar at LB or DE, but Quinn knows how to use him. But right now something is not right with him. He was obviously not near 100% last week.
