Better Fit For Dallas? Duke, Abdullah or Ajayi

I think Ajayi is a little overhyped around here. I like him too, but for his size, he doesn't play as tough as you expect

What's not complete about Abdullah?

You think he can be an every down back? He is small and I am not sure he can pick up the blitzer ( he didn't look that good in the senior bowl).

5'9 205 isn't that small....Being short doesn't hurt a RB as far as I'm concerned. Just makes it more difficult for LB's and S's to find him. And 205 at 5'9 isn't bad bulk at all. That puts him in the Shady McCoy/Jamaal Charles category.

And even if he isn't a 25 carry a game guy, would you really be upset if we drafted Gio Bernard or Andre Ellington in the late 2nd? Abdullah has good hands and returned kickoffs too. He can be utilized in a lot of different ways.

If we don't get Gurley or Gordon then I have no interest in a RB in this draft at all.
Either pick one of the elite runners or add another stud to that offensive line .

We almost have to draft a RB at some point.

If Murray does not return, I think they would tend towards a bigger back in the draft. They would likely be planning on a rotation with Ryan Williams, Randle and the draft pick.

Having said that, it's odd to see people complain about a RB being 5-9 considering that Emmitt was 5-9.

Why not?

Short in height does not preclude durability. Where has there been any indication he couldn't handle being a full-time starter? Nearly 800 carries in the past 3 years and 4000+ yds.

For what it's worth, I like Abdullah. Fumble rate is a bit of a concern but he's electric in a way that no one on the offense currently is. Plus, he's a RKG big time. Don't think we draft him, though, and I wouldn't target him as Murray's replacement.

I like Abdullah. While his long speed disappointed some...as was already pointed out, he tested exceptionally well in areas that measure explosiveness, acceleration, burst, change of direction/agility, etc. He has a well put together frame...being named 'lifter of the year' while at Nebraska & posting 24 reps @ 225 at the combine. He also has good vision with little hesitation.

The fumbles (13 in 4 seasons) are a concern. His size might limit him more in pass protection than as a runner, but there have been quite a few less than ideal statured backs that have developed into pretty solid pass protectors.

He also has tremendous character, work ethic, and intelligence. Think this kids will always work to improve.

Not sure how many of the backs in the draft could sustain Murray's workload from last season. A healthy Gurley might be one. I also like Gordon among others...but don't know with him either. Guys like Cobb & Langford had fairly hefty workloads in college...but then, so did Abdullah.

Why do you think we wouldnt take him before that

Well, I was thinking that Ajayi would be a reach with our pick at the end of the second round. I am NOT a draftnik so I could be wrong. Essentially we are almost into the 3rd round at that point and with our issues on D on the line and at CB, I'll have to stick by what I said. Too many good RB's in the draft to take one before the third round IMO.

I'd take Langford or Cobb in the fourth or fifth round if/when Ajayi is gone. Others on here like the big kid from Northern Iowa...Johnson. I do believe if Ajayi is gone that one of Langford, Cobb or Johnson will be wearing a star on his helmet at the end of the draft. I think Murray will come back for about 5-6 mil per year for 4 years and HOPE we cut Randle and Dunbar. I would love a trio of Murray, Williams and one of the above named kids. We would pound defenses into submission.

Me either...great kid, super motor and want to but too small for this offense and he does put the ball on the ground. I firmly believe he is not on our board.

Personally I think Ajayi is very close with Coleman as the #3 HB and there is a good chance neither makes it to our 2nd. Of either was there in the 2nd, Im sprinting to the podium unless there is a Nate Orchard or Ifo Ekpre-Olomu there. I think with our 2nd we will most likley have Abdullah and Johnson as the top available HBs and in the 3rd, guys like Yeldon and Davis

I firmly believe Abdullah is too small for our scheme, plus he puts the ball on the ground: Ajayi, Langford, Cobb and Johnson don't. Yeldon is nice but pretty one dimensional and runs real high. Davis...not that familiar with honestly. Damn...just LOADED with RB's this year!

Yeldon in the third could be a good pick if we do sign Spiller

There is something about Ajayi that I'm not crazy about. After watching tape I'm not sure he has great balance. I will give him the speed and he falls forward. Better question would have been Duke, Coleman, or Cobb IMO.

Abdullah. Why he is not liked here?

After Gurley and Gordon he would be my favorite. He did have fumbling issues, but he carried the ball 886 times at Nebraska which is just crazy. I think he would fit well in Dallas and is certainly familiar with a zone blocking scheme since it's what Nebraska plays. I guess size and the fumbling issues are what turn people off because he put up big #s against good competition and had a great performance at the combine.

Abdullah is already on this team. His name is Lance Dunbar.
