Better RB Emmitt or Barry

Deja vu'....noone ever tires of this, do they?

Give me Sherman Williams.

I will change it up and say this ..... If Bo Jackson would have never had his horrible hip injury ..... I believe he would have been the greatest most dominate back ever .....

You very well could be right. Bo looked great, big powerful guy with very good speed. Bo Knows.

Screw em all...Give me Earl Campbell in his prime and watch him carry the team, and other teams defenders, on his back.

Emmitt was the better football player, period. Barry Sanders was a more talented individual, but football is a team game. Emmitt made his teammates better, Sanders didn't.

He contstantly led the league in carries for zero or minus yards. While Emmitt kept the chains moving all game long, Sanders often kept his team from moving the chains by always trying to make something out of nothing. Sanders probably made more big plays than any other RB in history, but his style of running worked against his offense having any consistency.

Man that whould have been a showdown .... Earl Campbell and Bo Jackson in their primes .....

I got an Autograph pic of Earl Campbell in the early 80's ...... his leggs were still bigger than my whole body ....

Maybe so, if he hadn't had the injury and if he'd concentrated solely on football. Not that I blame him...I'd have played baseball full-time. Better money and less chance of being maimed.

Dude, you could possibly be right, we'll never know how great he could have been because of it. He looked incredible though that's for sure.

Barry was a better running back... Emmitt was a better all-around back.

Personally I think there were several backs superior to Emmitt in running the football from Jim Brown, to Eric Dickerson to Tony D. But when you combine:

1. Ability to run the football
2. Ability to receive the football
3. Blocking
4. Durability
5. Willingness to fit within the gameplan of the team

I think Emmitt is #1.

Have mad respect for Emmitt and Barry. Personally I don't know if there was ever a better PURE runner than Barry. The things he could do were just mystifying at times. Emmitt had the total package for the team.

Just was always a big fan of the Tyler Rose. Don't really know why, was never an oilers fan, never met him, never followed him much. I guess just seeing him play a few times on TV and just flat out abusing some defensive players sticks in your mind.

Speaking of emmitt...sure he has the record and the rings but I will be honest and say that I would much rather see Tony D in his prime and would have loved to seen him on the team that emmitt played with.

One last thing, the stuff about his sub par O-line is a joke. Lomas Brown was a fantastic LT and he had an excellent Center in Glover as well. Almost every year that Emmitt had 2 Pro Bowl guys in front of him Barry did too.

Barry fans absolutely hate when this is brought up. They usually don't respond or they change the subject.

Barry lacked a team and yet he still out-performed Emmitt in every way except winning.

This is another one I love. How good was Dallas when Emmitt didn't play? Not very good. He was a huge reason they were so good. Don't see how anyone could argue that if you watched the games Emmitt missed. He set the table for Irvin/Aikman and kept the defense off the field for long stretches.

I am of this opinion as well. He made defenders look like jr high kids.

Barry was a great RB. I just see his fans get real angry and dismissive when the subject of him and Emmitt come up. I think a lot of it is plain jealousy at Dallas' dominance in the '90s.

thanx :D
I have pissed off a few Barry fans in my day. I will not budge on my opinion of him. I wouldn't want him.

I can't say I disagree with this, except I would add the caveat if he had not played baseball too. If he concentrated solely on football and not got hurt I think he would have been dominant, or would dominate.

While both athletes were very good, believe Barry Sanders edges Emmitt out by two shakes of a lion's tail. Barry chose to retire (early) Emmitt could have played another year with Arizona, tested the waters and no one wanted to bite.

For what it's worth, Emmitt is a far Better dancer than Barry.

Barry could have 4000 yards more than Emmitt and I still wouldn't want him. It has NOTHING whatsover to do with yardage.

My opinion is that if you are benched on short-yardage and goal line downs, then you are automatically disqualified from the discussion.

Good point.
How many TD's did Emmitt have of less than 5 yards that affected his average. That would be interesting to find out.
Seemed every game Irvin was down at the 1 yard line, only for Emmitt to get the TD.
How many 1 yard runs for even a 1st down also.

I would line Herschel Walker up at the top of the "I" and run him right at you.

He had 1500 rushing and 500 receiving when Landry did that.

He would have been awesome behing our bruising line of the 90's.

Nobody ever caught Herschel from behind.

How blessed have we been Cowboy fans ? ... Tony D, Herschel & Emmitt !!
