I'd say, just looking at it on paper right now, that we've got a slight edge over them in the secondary. But we'll see.

Until proven otherwise, I have to say the Eagles. They have shown (except for last year besides that December game against Dallas) that they come up with big plays. Part of it is the scheme. You can argue the Cowboys have better talent (though not sure they do), but the scheme, pass rush, etc also help make secondary (see Giants).

I seem to remember Trent Green throwing all over the Cowboys (and yes I know he threw 4 picks). Jason Campbell throwing all over us and even , Jon Kitna too. Matt Moore had his moments as well.

So unless the pass rush is more consistent (and you know itw as not last year), it is a moot point, because no matter how talented a corner or saftey is, the more time the QB has, the bigger advantage the WR's have in one on one.

Our defense finished the season ranked fifth in passer rating allowed, fourth in touchdown percentage allowed, ninth in completion percentage allowed, seventh in yards allowed per pass and and fifth in long pass percentage allowed.

And that's despite the fact that Anthony Henry and/or Terence Newman were missing or playing hurt almost all season. (Jacques Reeves played more than either of them did.) In the four games when our secondary had all four starters in the starting lineup, we gave up a total of two TD passes and allowed a 69.1 passer rating (which would have ranked No. 1 over the course of the season).

And those big plays by the Eagles? We had 19 interceptions last season. That's as many as the Eagles have had in any season this century.

And you didn't even quote the part about our pass rush not being consistent last year. We were 3rd in the league in sacks and only one sack away from being second!

Sometimes I'm amazed at the misconceptions about this team.

Dude, I hope you can see that:

Newman (healthy I hope)
Henry (healthy I hope)
Jenkins
Scandrick
Ball (with a year of experience)

is much preferrable to:

Newman (injured and missing games)
Henry (injured and missing games)
Reeves
N. Jones
Ball (as a rookie)

Throw in Pacman (if available) and there will be no comparison to last year in what Dallas can do in the secondary. Even without Pacman, the improvement will be significant.

Heck, Reeves played as much or more as Newman and Henry, and he is just terrible. Jones played way too much and is mainly responsible for letting Wes Welker rape the city of Dallas last year.

Jenkis is light years better than Reeves. Do I need to tell you that Pacman is better than N. Jones?

One guy like Reeves is all it takes for teams to target and move down the field.

The Dallas pass rush was one of the better in the NFL last year and it will be much improved this year, IMO.

Just look at Wade Phillips history with his defense and the improvement in sack numbers from year 1 to year 2 everywhere he's been. Seriously, check that out.

At times one would almost think a piece of cheese cloth would be superior to Jacques Reeves. I know that isn't the case but he came close to single handedly losing us a game or two.

Dude - not an Eagles fan. I do believe our secondary will be better than last year. But all those stats don't mean squat when Eli Manning drives effortlessly down the field in under a minute to score right before the half.

Thanks

Jones was a top-15 cornerback in his rookie year and was beaten less than any of the Eagles' current cornerbacks. He was a top-15 cornerback his second year, too.

I have a question for you Adam. First off I agree with your above post.

What do you make of Adam not playing a year. I think it should not be an issue, but do you have any concerns?

That's kinda my point. It will be more difficult to do that this year.

Reeves was the one getting picked on. Eli will have a much more difficult time doing that this year, with the likes of Pacman or Jenkins playing instead of Reeves or Jones.

Now, please don't give me another example of the Dallas coverage from last season... it's not very relevant to this year unless you speak directly about Newman or Henry.

If he gets reinstated, I think he'll be rusty for a while, of course. But even if he's just our third cornerback and isn't quite back to his previous level, he's still a huge upgrade over Jacques Reeves.

And don't remind him that Jon Kitna passed for 446 yards against his Eagles. Or that Brian Griese threw for 322. Or that Tom Brady threw for 380 and Tony Romo threw for 324. Or that Eli Manning swept them.

jones was nothing special his rookie year. he was a poor tAckler, had no picks, and had a bunch of fumbles from returns. he might not have been "garbage" but he wasn't anything special.
