With the addition of Pacrat Jones Dallas easily has the best secondary in the league.

Dawkins is a free safety. And right now, you might have to give the edge to Hamlin.

Considine is a strong safety, and Roy obviously has the edge there.

The top three cornerbacks for each team would be fairly even as units, but our depth behind the top three is much better. And Watkins is better than any of their backup safeties (and maybe better than Considine, too).

I pretty much agree with you. Saying Watkins is better than their backups and possibly Considine might be a stretch, though. Maybe as a special-teammer, but I really haven't seen enough good from him as a safety to draw a conclusion about how well he matches up with other teams' players.

jones was nothing special his rookie year. he was a poor tAckler, had no picks, and had a bunch of fumbles from returns. he might not have been "garbage" but he wasn't anything special.

Most rookie cornerbacks not named Terence Newman get toasted up and down the field. Jones was one of the least-beaten cornerbacks in the NFL as a rookie.

If Mike Jenkins plays good and if Roy gets better than I think that we will have not justa better secondary than the eagles but the best in the NFL.

I think it's close. We're counting on Pac-Man and the rookies playing well. I think Newman is the best CB in the NFC East...but Samuel, Brown, and Sheppard are better right now.

If Pac-Man returns to form, then I think we overtake them.

A funnier comparison can be found on extremeskins. They actually have a HUGE thread comparing Witten and Cooley.

Naturally, Cooley is whuppin our boy...They even claim Cooley is a better blocker than Witten.

I agree with most ............with the depth that Dallas have compiled, overall I would say the Boys have the best secondary. I don't think that Samuels is no where as good as Newman and I believe that will really show this year now that he is out of NE defensive scheme. I have always thought he was overated and now overpaid. Trust me...he will be exposed this year.

That's kinda my point. It will be more difficult to do that this year.

Reeves was the one getting picked on. Eli will have a much more difficult time doing that this year, with the likes of Pacman or Jenkins playing instead of Reeves or Jones.

Now, please don't give me another example of the Dallas coverage from last season... it's not very relevant to this year unless you speak directly about Newman or Henry.

Sure you're not.:shush:
Hey its hard to be a Cowboy fan in Eagle Country, but its true!

I hear you on last year. I just want to see it to believe it. I would like nothing more than a suffocating, sack filled, turnover making defense.

If you base it off last year

cowboys

why our defense was 13-3, eagles were 8-8

this year

its a tie

why?

both are 0-0

:D

Eagles secondary is very good, but it isn't as GREAT as the entire national sports media says it is. Lito is a Pro Bowler, but now a disgruntled one, at best. Samuels is a premiere corner, but a TAMPA 2 one, NOT a pure man-man. Brown is pretty good, overrated, but good nonetheless. Dawkins has lost a step, but still a firey leader. And too bad they got *cheap* with Michael Lewis-otherwise, they wouldn't be in such a mess at this SS position like they are now.

As for us-we need to PROVE it this year. We're talented ON paper, but for now, that's it.

Prove it? Prove it?

Newman who spent most of the beginning of the season injured locked down his side of the field, took away the slot receiver and made game changing plays in the season

Henry lead the team in INT's and until he was injured was leading the NFC in INT's. He rarely gave up the big play, and was a major reason why newman was not missed as much in the beginning.

Hamlin was a pro-bowl safety, and was a major cog in our pass defense doing so well last year.

You wanna say prove it, say it to Roy, say it to Pacman, even Jenkins, but with a guy like Reeves playing second almost all year, our defense held its own against almost every offense.

And until proven otherwise, our secondary is better than there's.

As a UNIT, we nonetheless have alot of room for improvement.

Sure, in that Giants' playoff game, Eli, on the stat sheet, didn't exactly set the world on fire with some ONLY 100 passing yards. HOWEVER-the Giants' receivers DID make alot of critical catches during critical junctures of the game.(i.e. the end of the 1st half, quick-scoring TD drive, the go-ahead drive in the 4th qtr, etc)

With that being said-hopefully, letting Jacques Reeves go, getting Mike Jenkins/Pacman could solve alot of problems in the secondary. And who knows? Roy may come in this season playing with HEART, especially with a chip on his shoulder.

I don't disagree, but I do not think the eagles getting Samuel made up the difference in secondary's from last year.

Remember we tore them apart at phily, and it was the defense that kept us in the second game.

Like I said in my previous post-Samuels is a ZONE corner.(Belichick employs the Tampa 2 style with his D in NE) He's a very good one, no doubt-but he's a far cry from being a pure shutdown one. The same can be said for Nathan Vasher and Rhonde Barber-elite, but only in the Tampa 2.

BTW-I find it odd how Eagles players and their fans whined and cried how the Pats cheated them out of that '04 Super Bowl, only to raid their roster when all was said and done.(They also showed interest in Moss and Rosevelt Colvin) If the Pats REALLY did cheat, then logic says it only made Samuels(among others) look ALOT better than they really are.

Another board (its Eagles) I go to has a fierce debate going. I said its a wash if your looking at it objectively. Eagles fans say them hands down. I know look at the source. Heres my take

Samuel vs Newman = wash. IMO, Newmans a better player but trying to be objective and putting everything together a wash can be fair.

Pacman vs Brown = Pacman easiley

Lito Sheppard vs Henry or Jenkins= Lito

Dawkins vs Roy W= Dawkins

Considine vs Hamlin = Hamlin

2-2-1

Its a good debate I like to hear Cowboys opinions on this. Next opinons says??????????
We always look the best on paper but never play like it. Let's hope this year is different.
