Better to be the #3 seed or the #4 seed?

The second seed appears to be out of reach, would you rather be the #3 seed or the #4 seed? It is not as easy as it appears, consider:

#3 seed
Advantage: Play the weakest team in the NFC in the wildcard round (probably: the loser of the Eagles-Giants game this weekend)
Disadvantage: A road game against New Orleans the following week.

#4 seed
Advantage: Assuming Seattle wins in the first round at home, a road game against the Bears (who we match up with much better than the Saints)
Disadvantage: Play the best wildcard team in the NFC wildcard round (probably: the winner of the Eagles-Giants game this weekend)

we just need to win our games...we blew the only real advantage we could have got (1st rd bye) with that awful performance last week

I selected the 3 seed. I want to play the weakest wild card team....and I do not want to meet the NY Football Giants again this season (unless it's the NFC Championship game in Dallas).

wont matter. It is the same. The number 2 seed is what matters, having two weeks to prepare, rest and get healthy is what you are after.

Having to play the 5th or 6th seed really wont matter at this point. we just played the giants, we play atlanta tomorrow and philly next week. So we would play one of those teams again. So to me it is just as difficult at 3 as 4.

The one upside of the 3 is that if seattle/san fran is the 4 and they win they go to chicago. However if we win we would go to new orleans.

The one thing that would be important though is if you won in the first two rounds and you were the 3 and the 1 and 2 were out, you would play at home...but that is a big if.

But if Philly knocks off the Giants this weekend, the Giants will probably be the 6th seed. But I agree, among the four potential wildcard teams my choices for the first round would be: Philly, Atlanta, Carolina then the Giants, in that order.

As long as the Saints don't return to Texas Stadium I'm okay with any playoff seed.

More power to you guys, but I can't waste too much energy on seeding.

If the Cowboys don't beat the Falcons, they'll put themselves in a very precarious and dangerous position.

Beat the Falcons and we're almost as good as in the playoffs. I'll think about possible scenarios after "officially" qualifying for the playoffs.

If the Cowboys lose, I think this forum will "officially" implode.

I would rather any scenario that sends us to New Orleans is the 2nd round. I do not want to go to Chicago under any circumstances until we HAVE to...and I think everyone would love another crack at the Saints.

To me it does not matter. The way I look at it is we will be in SB any way & we will win it. ;)

Ya I know but that was a disgrace. I want some simplance of redemption. If they do it again on our home turf I will concede they are the better team this year. If we beat them, I have about 15 phone calls to make to all the NO fans that called me to gloat.

IMO there's another advantage to the 3 seed. There's a better chance you could avoid the 1 AND 2 seeds in back to back weeks.

Were we to get the 4 seed, we'd probably play the Giants, probably the ONE team we don't want to see in the first round. Then you have to go to Chicago. Even if we match up better with Chicago, we would probably still have to face New Orleans in the NFC title game.

I think Chicago is a better matchup for anyone with balance on offense and defense. If the Giants got on a roll, got the 5 seed, and beat Seattle, I could see them beating Chicago.

If we get the 4, we're going to have an emotional, hand-wringing game in the first round. Then we have to travel to play the 1 seed in Chicago... then probably a game against NO on the road. That could be a let down game after the emotion we'd have to face after making it that far.

I'd much rather see Philly/ATL/CAR in round 1, NO in game 2, THEN a possible home game against the Giants or in Chicago. Let the emotion build instead of drop off as the playoffs go on.

well if we do play them again it will probably be in their place, and honestly I dont think the results are going to be that much different...in all liklihood they'll be healthier than they were last week

its just a huge mismatch for us and I have no faith in this coaching staff to be able to make the changes necessary to produce a different result

Bottom line is win! That's it. You're right. There is really no sense in talking about all of the seeding scenarios until the regular season is over. Then we can talk about who we will be playing all that we want to.

It won't be the Eagles and Giants. I think the Giants and Vikings will be the teams. Both New York and Dallas will beat Philly and make them 8-8 at best.

I don't think the teams are mismatched at all, and The coaches either really, we just got torn up cause they did everything we thought they wouldnt. Other than the screens to reggie.
