He’s already good. If he takes a step forward the team will be even more busy with contracts.
Good problem to have, getting to the point of potential harvesting future draft picks with depth trades.

Tyler has been good in pass protection, but haven't seen a lot from his run blocking. Hopefully that continues to improve as well. He's turning into a pretty solid linemen and let's hope he can take the next step.

He’s UFA soon.

Best sign him now. 8)
Sheesh I wish. I think him and his agent know how big another strong season is for his value. He’s another probowl year away from getting top of the position open market offers.

Breakout?

The dude was a pro Bowler last season. Prior to last season there were some on this forum that described him as "hot garbage".

Let that be a lesson. There have been many players on this team that has been unfairly characterized simply for lacking in experience. It's as if the concept of "improvement" does not exist in the NFL.

Biadasz, Dalton Schultz, Cooper Rush, Dorance Armstrong, Noah Brown, they all had their turn being condemned on this forum. They are all either still on this team or have signed a lucrative contract to play elsewhere.

Nashton Wright, Kelvin Joseph, Neville Gallimore, Quinton Gallimore, Josh Ball, one of them or all of them still have the potential to make a statement this coming season and reverse the general perception of their careers so far.

Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Biadasz, Martin, Steele.
Actually that is a pretty good OL. As they all make each better of the guy next to them. They can compliment each other.

Tyron helps Tyler be a better OG. Martin can make Steele be a better OT. Martin makes Biadasz a better C, and Tyler and Biadasz can make each other better.

With the new OL coach, different blocking schemes, and different play calling, they have the potential to regain atop OL unit in the NFL.
No excuses actually.

And health is an overused cliche, we all know this, and it goes for all teams.

I don't think people understand how far his retirement set the offense back. Fredbeard was on a HOF trajectory. I miss him.
He's a super cool guy too. I think he retired because he felt he wasn't up to par anymore. His play took a dip following his diagnosis but he was still pretty good if I remember correctly.

He was fine last year...

Maybe he take a leap forward but imo he was a good center....its just that hes following up Travis Frederick who was just as much an anchor of our line as Martin and Smith

Yeah Frederick was always a cool guy. Smart as heck, which was a big part of why he was all-pro.

He retired because his immune system was compromised and it was the beginning of the COVID pandemic and he just couldn’t risk it. At that point nobody really knew much about the virus but the word was that it could be fatal.

Frederick might have also felt like his play had fallen off though, I don’t know.

Really miss that guy.

No he wasn't. Not in any meaningful sense. 7th NFC alternate when nobody else wanted to play in the AS game?

He grades out in the bottom third of centers.
He did take a serious step forward last season; he is a good starter NOW but that is all. He needs to take another serious step to be one we want to keep for a long time.
