Anyone really like this pick up? He played really well his rookie year and then bounced around. He is still relatively young, quick and is a good tackler. I think after a couple of games Mr. Connor will be back on the pine.

I think Tiny Ern is more appropriate.. but if he's healthy i think he can be a player. Haven't seen him in a 34 before, but im sure he can learn.

I think he will mainly be a nickel/pass situational guy until he gets his feet wet under the system. I don't expect him to play a lot of ILB in the 3-4 initially. He will mainly be there in sub packages.

"YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW the man with the large jaw, but Adrian Peterson does. When we asked our guest editor in chief which opposing player he hates facing most, a guy who deserves more pub, Ernie Sims was the first name he gave. "He's like the Tasmanian Devil," says Peterson, who faced Sims twice a year when both were in the NFC North. "He's extremely athletic, he's in on every play and he's a huge hitter."

If that praise comes as a surprise, blame Detroit. In Sims' first three years, the 2006 first-rounder led the NFC with 370 tackles. He did it playing weakside linebacker (or "Will"), a position known for smaller 'backers who specialize in pass coverage. But the Lions also won just 10 games in that stretch. With that kind of futility comes anonymity, even after Sims was traded to Philadelphia last April.

Colleagues, though, have known Sims as a streaking game-film blur for the past five years. He earned his rep by being one of the league's best linebackers at avoiding congestion, spotting the ball and then tracking down runners. "He has to be one of the most acrobatic players in the league," says Lions running back Kevin Smith. "Sideline to sideline, he's a beast. You can size him up all you want, but if he wants contact, he'll find it. And he hits like a freight train." Adds Eagles center Jamaal Jackson, "Ernie's the fastest linebacker I've ever seen."

Found that on a different forum.

If he can return to 2006-2009 Sims, it could be a great signing.

Eh I think he's just here for depth. Orie Lemon is the one that will take over if Connor struggles

I liked everything about him but his size when he came into the league. I really don't know what happened to him, but I worry about any player that everyone gives up on at once. Makes me think he just fell off, and it could be the big hits and collisions combined with his lack of size that did it? Anyone know?

Not a great fit for a 3-4. He's a run and hit LB who is too small to take on blocks. Sims has also had concussion problems.

He'll at least play in the nickel packages. We can't afford to leave Connor in there in those situations.

Not really. He was a severe underachiever in Detroit. Then was supposed to be in a better fit in Philly and Indianapolis and pretty much was the same player. This defense seems to be the worst fit for him.

Considering it's late October you can't really criticize the move. He's at least a proven NFL player, but I don't expect much.

I prefer the Peprah signing over this.

Anyone else notice how little of the 34 we have been seeing lately wtih the Cowboys? I'm not saying they are officially moving back to the 43, but I do think Rob Ryan might be stealing a page out of New England and at least giving us the flexibility to do the 43. Think Ware and Spencer at DE, Carter and Sims/Wilber/Butler at OLB, and Connor/Albright/Lemon at middle. That teamed with a fresh rotation at DL could be servicable.

More sign of us playing more 4-3 front packages.

There's a Web site called Pro Football Focus. According to their grades on him, he's awful. His grades are lower than Brooking or Bradie James. Hope they just use him on special teams.

Looking at his first three seasons with the Lions, i wouldn't say he was a severe underachiever at all. Seems like he was all over the place for them, a true sideline to sideline type linebacker and one of the fastest and hardest hitters in the league.

No. No. Just another bad decision in the end. What were we thinking?

Don't get seduced by high tackle numbers on a bad defense. He was a top 10 overall pick. He was expected to be a difference maker. He wasn't. In fact, he was considered a bad locker room presence. Football wasn't that important to him.

The Lions thought so much of him 3 years later that they traded him for Tony Scheffler and a 7th round pick. Imagine if we did that with Tyron Smith next year.

You'd think a guy with his skill set would flourish in the defensive schemes of the Eagles and/or Colts. He didn't. I can't expect much here in a defense he's never played and doesn't seem to fit.

I was considering what other players and coaches had to say about him, not just his numbers.

At this point in Sims career he is just a special teams player... Dont see him playing a role on the defense unless a lot of injuries strike.
