Interesting. Chandler Jones is in the last year of his deal I believe and will be expensive to sign. Cooper has been a bust for ARI and their 2nd round pick is near the end of the round. Considering the Pats don't have a first it gives them more ammo. It all depends on whether or not Cooper proves to be a player and if they can draft somebody decent with the pick if they keep it. The Pats have missed on quite a few 2nd round picks in the last decade.

Yes, it does make you wonder what Leary's value is.

Because they have been dealing a lot of the time for second round picks.

Whoa. Belichick does not play around.

I have to think something is wrong with Chandler Jones. Background, something. Could be the synthetic marijuana thing.

Cooper has been a big waste and a second round choice for a very good pass rusher is not equitable.

And Cooper is a free agent after this year as well. Pats love those guys that they can let leave for compensatory selections after a year (or less) rental.

I would've given Leary and 67 for Jones

And Belichick would have given you this face:

Probably won't matter. We will clutch him dear to our bosoms for his final year. Seen it happen too many times in the past in similar situations.

I wouldn't give 34 for 1 year and a Franchise tag for Jones.

ARI's 2nd is #61 overall

I remember when Jonathan Cooper was kind of a big deal.

Now he is like a Fasano-like throw-in on a trade for an elite pass rusher.

Makes me wonder if they did it for the pick or because they actually see something in Cooper. I see people saying they'd give Leary and our 3rd (which is within a few picks of Zona's 2nd). I see where they're coming from but I'm not sure if Bill would've taken it. Sure, Leary is fairly young and more proven, but Cooper does have freakish physical ability for a OG. But I may be wrong. Maybe they just did it for the pick. Besides, I don't know if Dallas would've wanted to make a big commitment to Chandler next year anyway. You basically have to if you're giving away a high pick.

Chandler would been a gigantic improvement on our d-line. And the Pats are desperate for o-lineman after Brady was nearly killed by Denver in the playoffs. I wonder if Belichek even talked to his old protoge Jason Garrett. I doubt it.

New England likes to trade players prior to their last year who they know they won't resign to get maximum trade value. A bit of a risk for sure if you are giving up a known good player for 2 rolls of the dice. Cooper fits an immediate need for them if they can whip him into shape. The NE Oline was awful last year and probably the single reason NE was not in the Super Bowl.

lol wow!! cards won that deal

Absolutely disagree......and here's why.

Jones wasn't gonna resign w/ the Patriots. So basically what the Cards are getting is a one year rental.....unless they can resign him. Big gamble.

Patriots recoup a fairly decent pick deep in D-lineman....and get Cooper who was miscast in Arizona's power blocking scheme. IMO will be a much better fit in th Patriots zone blocking scheme.

On top of that the Patriots cleared over 5 million off their cap.....

Wouldn't shock me to see them make a run @ either Chris Long(who they have had a visit w/) or go after Hardy.

If they sign Hardy.....they probably get the same amount of production...#'s wise as they would have out of Jones.

Year Team G Comb Total Ast Sack SFTY PDef Int TDs Yds Avg Lng
2012 New England Patriots 14 45 24 21 6.0 0 4 0 0 0 0.0 0
2013 New England Patriots 16 79 40 39 11.5 0 0 0 0 0 0.0 0
2014 New England Patriots 10 43 30 13 6.0 0 2 0 0 0 0.0 0
2015 New England Patriots 15 44 17 6 12.5 0 1 1 0 0 0.0 0

Once again the Patriots pull a fast one on an unsuspecting team.

If Jones doesn't resign....they are gonna look pretty stupid for blowing a 2nd round pick on a 1 year rental....and throwing in a former #1 pick.
