Cowboys player to open Smashburger eateries
Fast-food restaurant Smashburger, a Colorado-based burger chain food concept, has inked a deal with BIGG Capital Holdings LLC, a Dallas-based business development group led by football star Leonard Davis, to build Smashburger restaurants in Dallas.
Davis’ group inked a 30-unit deal with Smashburger.
Denver-based Smashburger is a fast-food burger concept in which the burgers served are made mostly or fully from Angus beef. The company is funded with $15 million from Denver private equity firm Consumer Capital Partners.
“Burger lovers across Texas have fallen in love with Smashburger’s delicious burgers; now Dallas burger fanatics will have a chance to as well,” said Smashburger founder Tom Ryan. “We look forward to becoming Dallas’ favorite burger place for every occasion.”
This is the first time Leonard Davis’ Bigg Capital Holdings has stepped into the franchise restaurant business. He considers the burger franchise a business concept that will continue long after his football career.
“I’ve had great success in the NFL and my career with the Cowboys continues to drive me,” said Davis. “But I wanted a business opportunity that made sense with my life after football. Smashburger has all the right things in place to be a huge success in Dallas and nationwide.”
Under the agreement Davis’s holding company will open and operate 30 restaurants. At the moment, Smashburger has restaurants in San Antonio, Houston, West Texas and East Texas. With the addition of the Davis deal, Smashburger has 217 locations total.
Davis is a guard for the Dallas Cowboys. According to the team's official Web site, he spent several seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before returning to his native state of Texas to play for the Cowboys. He also played for the University of Texas.
