Bigger/Stronger Conner Williams

Collins may be trade bait actually if it pans out for Williams.

comparing williams to the 3 probowlers
with the added weight and strength, his test scores compare well
especially all were rookie starters
tsmith is the longest, fastest and possibly the most agile
williams had the best jump scores, so most explosive
williams was much lighter but he has caught up in weight and possibly in strength

I think our best OL going forward after this season (I think Collins is long gone) will be:

RT - Williams
RG - Martin
C - Frederick
LG - McGovern
LT - Smith

You can have Looney as a backup interior guy, maybe draft another late round OG next year and probably find a decent, cheap vet back at OG (not sure what happens with Sua beyond this year).

Then at OT, maybe Fleming is again back. Hyatt developing into a decent back up would be great as well.

Some of the board scouts claim Williams can't play RT but frankly, we are getting average play from Collins at RT right now so I doubt there would be this big drop off in the future.

Fleming is signed through 2020

What's crazy is McGovern matched William's broad jump, which is pretty elite for an OL, while over 10 pounds heavier. He also had the best Short Shuttle on the team, only slower than Tyron in 3-cone. 2nd longest arms too (whatever, but people care about this ha ha)

Two really good young lineman. Going to be fun to watch develop. This OL is pretty nuts.

Wow it took till the second page before the first hint of negativity came out.

I dont think he ment it negatively, just that statement of does the added weight and strength translate to the football field.
I for one think it will! He is now going to have a year under his belt and learned the most important thing, hand placement and leverage. Super excited to watch this O line this year

I've been away, so please merge if this is a duplicate.

I keep hearing on radio and reading in the paper that Conner Williams has packed on some muscle in the offseason.
Now 315 lbs, but, more importantly, a stronger man.

I'm sure he has a good ways to go, but it's encouraging and what most of knew he needed when they drafted him.

I agree, it's very encouraging. I think the young man has everything else you're looking for, especially in terms of drive and motivation. I think he has the right work ethic to continue to improve and he couldn't have asked for a better group of role models to emulate and learn from. It looks to me like he is following Zack Martin around like his shadow and trying to do exactly what the multi-time Pro Bowler does.

My only question now is exactly where everyone plays this year?

Is Williams strictly the starting left guard with Connor McGovern a redshirt backup?
Does Williams challenge La'el Collins for the right tackle job this year? Let's face it, Collins didn't have a great year and hasn't developed into "the next Erik Williams" as we all hoped for.

No way Fredbeard is 6'4". He looks shorter.

i have not been able to get before and after pics.

one would have thought he would have been stronger being at a major college program.
guess a lot of it is age.

If he was at Texas under Mack Brown, there Strength coach was Mad Dog, yes he should have been strong as an Ox. When here at UNC he had those player strong as heck. Being an avid weight lifter and bodybuilder use to go in with my brother who graduated from there to work out myself.

Whatever reason Texas despite the top recruiting status has a lot of disappointments when it comes to players going to the nfl. They seem to be ill-prepared for the jump.
