How about Doug Donnely's dropped pass on 3rd and eight in the '82 championship game? That first down would have allowed Dallas to run out most of the clock or kick a field goal that would have prevented Dwight Clark from getting his "Catch" opportunity.
He makes that catch and I'm sure we have one more Lombardi Trophy on our shelf.

I don't recall that.

I recall us scoring with just over six minutes left on a TD pass to go up 27-21, and then not getting the ball back until after "the catch".

On or off the Field it was the Jerry...Jimmy Split.

I don't care who was a fault...We had won back to back Super Bowls and it should have been 4 in a row.

I have never been as mad about something to do with the Cowboys as the day I heard that Jimmy was leaving.

Still gets me to this day that when things are going so very good that two grown men can't put aside their ego's to keep probably a once in a lifetime situation going.

Unbelievable.

Will we ever have players of their calibers in their prime playing for us again at the same time like Aikman, Irvin and Smith?

Total waste.

One problem with your theory. Did you see the kinds of people we were drafting then? What makes you think either of those 1st two picks would contribute? Hmm, maybe we could have gotten another David LaFleur or blown another 2 picks on CBs that would be off quickly be off the team.

step

True. I hated that trade, but one of the guys that was available who most said we would probably have taken was Koren Robinson. He hasn't done much except get in trouble.

I know some will say that we would've taken Shaun Alexander, simply because that's who the Seahawks took with our pick. But, imo, there's no way we would've taken a RB #1 that year when we still had Emmitt and he was still expected to be a big factor and our #1 back.

I think we would've taken a WR one year and a CB the other. It still doesn't make that trade any better, but looking back, I don't think we missed out on much.

That still ticks me off, but I don't blame either side. I think it was mutual.

The part that burns me isn't so much the split, but how Jerry chose to have himself become GM and a washed up out of work guy like Barry to come in and take over as HC. And then follow that up with basically a glorified OC in Gailey and then another in Campo.

Oh...my head...

Yep, thats very possible.
Of course, after all the bad drafts from the mid to late '90s you'd have to think they could of hit on someone with the picks given up for Galloway. Even if only by chance (and draft position) instead of any real drafting expertise by Jerry and his crew.

I was a 13 at the time I was at my grandfathers in Miami and my Uncle took me to SB 13 and I still curse him for that, I have a lot of memories and funny stories about that experience BUT I will never ever Forget JS ( cant say his name out-loud) Drop. to me That will always be tops and then DC catch is right behind that, There is no way that changed the future of the Cowboys from having the players inducted into the Hall of Fame and just even having to defend the Cowboys as a whole, I think we were better then Pittsburgh that year, and unfortunately losing 2 to them has cost us, But also think losing to Baltimore was just as big back then because ( and some older DC fans could justify this ) when we played them we were a big favorite and a better team.
On that note please forgive me when I say I would have rather lost in the early round of the playoffs then to go to the SB with a mediocre team. Now I didn't want to lose like this, but Our season was just one missed opportunity after another, So lets hope Romo can bury this season and get on next year t yours from the start to the end.

Didn't Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas both get inducted into the Hall of Fame? Funny how losing 2 Super Bowls to us, didn't hurt their chances.

Roger Staubach blames himself, not Jackie Smith, for that play. He said Smith was so wide open, he could have punted the ball to him, but he threw a bad pass.

and you believe Roger?

it bounced off Jackie's chest and Roger is a gentleman.

I was surprised no one had mentioned the fumble of the opening kickoff of the 94 NFC championship game. Or the fumble on the drive following the next kickoff. Those two plays killed our chance for a third consecutive SB.Personally I am very tired of all the talk putting Romo's fumble up there with the worst of the worst of sports blunders. Not even close.

It wasn't the opening kick off. The first turnover of the game was an interception of an Aikman pass for a TD. Then Kevin Williams fumbled a kick off return. After that it was Irvin fumbling after a catch.

Romo's fumble was bad and it did cost Dallas the game at that moment and a chance to advance to the next round. Who knows what happens after that. Maybe they go on a roll or maybe they just get beat up in the divisional round. It would be a bigger blunder if it occurred on a bigger stage.

How about the O line letting Danny get sacked and fumble. No queston the JS drop by far that was the SB to a team we lost to already for the team of the decade decision

I should have put a period in that sentence. I still for the life of me don't know how all these 70's steelers are in the HOF and Cowboys are not. I know they beat us 2, and won 4 bowls, But I'm sorry I cant accept that. The Cowboys .........Whatever I dont wan to get into a rant about the 70 steelers cowboys....l.Yes JS is still the worst in our History for me anyways, I know there are guys who lived through the Ice bowl GB vs Cowboys and the brides of the NFL which I'm sure that was no fun either, But just something about that Black and Gold just burns my ***.

How about spotting the 40whiners 21 pts in the 1st 5 minutes of the NFC Championship game in '95. Losing to those cheaters was the worst mistake we ever made. We whooped them good for the rest of the game, but just couldn't catch up to our mistakes in the 1st 5 minutes.

And letting Chan Gailey coach this team was the other biggest mistake ever.

A lot of the HOF voters have come right out and said that it hurt a lot of our players chances of ever getting into the hall. :banghead:

Those things didn't cost us a sure superbowl anymore than the mistake of putting romo in as the starter the year.

That should be on the list. Probably the closest the boys have been to being a powerhouse in 10 years and they turned it over to a guy who eventually proved he couldn't cut the mustard.

That will haunt alot of people for along time. In reality, it make take the organization a while to come back from that mistake.

Yeah, Bledsoe was just on fire. He was taking us to the promise land. Did you watch any Cowboy games early in the season. Bledsoe's suckage was worse than Romo's suckage. The only thing Dallas was going to get with Bledsoe leading this team is a better draft pick.

OK, well, I'm still sore from the reality smack the other night, but in an effort to lighten the mood, I was thinking about where this recent loss falls in the biggest Dallas failures? I mean, it qualifies on so many levels: a play the holder should make a million times, the possible misuse of clock (no time out to get organized? or, maybe better yet, take the FG on 3rd down instead of 4th, etc etc), the potential to crush the mojo of an up and coming star qb, the potential to end a hall of fame coach's career, and on and on... so, i ask you, which is the worst cowboys moment:

Heya Step, nice post and welcome.

Irvin, lying on the turf.......not moving. Ended his career and the final nail in the coffin for the Cowboys of the 90's
I never understood the impact the media piles on the Jackie Smith drop. They still had like a quarter and a half to play. Not like there was 03 seconds left and that play decided the outcome.

Biggest Cowboys mistake ever? That's easy - Hiring Larry Lacewell.

Now thats a good one! So which is worse? Hiring Switzer or sticking with Lacewell?
