Biggest indictment on Eberflus

Before I say no. Did all the corners suddenly forget how to play? Why is it that no matter the DC we continue to have the exact same DL issues? Under quin things got better for about 1.5 years but they decided hankins was too expensive to bring back. I know the DL issues result from them wanting speed and to focus on creating pressure. But with zero gap integrity it's too easy to dump off or take off into wide open gaps for easy gains. These stupid coordinators who think speed is the only thing that matters from kiffen, marineli, quin had the same issue but adjusted, to eberflub. All Jerry guys who install what Jerry likes, fast players who can make splash plays but the problem is they are way too easy to counter. Look at the Green Bay game, Dallas didn't stop Micah, dak just got rid of the ball. Micah beat his man and it didn't matter every time.
Things did not get better under Quinn. Remember that GB game? Quinn had good pass rushers and when he got a lead he feasted. The run defense got gashed. I will say it was at least decent. You see the guys in the secondary? Those are practice squad guys. The LB play has been spoiled by a MLB that will not plug gaps. The DL is terrible. Getting pushed around every game. 54 plays a lot. What does that tell you? Eberflus has been a good DC elsewhere. He didn't forget how to do it. The roster sucks and guys are not playing tough because the culture is a carnival act.

Well under marinelli dallas was nearly last in defense, Under Quinn it did get better, not suggesting it was great but wasn't historically bad. Now it's back to being historically bad.

I agree but you have to admit the talent level on this D, injuries are bad I know, is well below average. An indictment on Jerry's roster construction and really poor drafts.

I will blame Eberflus for many things, but LB play isn't one.

Murray has always been the guy you see. He put up five years of tape like this - as a full time starter! - before he ever got to Dallas. Year 6 looks just like all the others. I truly do not know how an LB that bad continues to get that many snaps from 3 different teams, and my only guess is that it's his first round pedigree. If he was a 6th rounder playing like this, he'd be in the CFL by now.

Sanborn is just athletically limited, and having a terrible defense around him really exposes that.

Shemar James is a 5th round rookie, who weighed in in the 3rd percentile for LBs per Mockdraftable. Not gonna be your run defense savior, and that should have never been the expectation.

Liufau is the only one I am actually curious about, because he's had good moments and he's had bad moments, but he's just been doghoused for some absolute trash 'backers. He is the guy I would want to be giving reps to in a lost season.

Anyway, coaching can only go so far. I think that James is the only talent on the roster that's coachable, because he's a dude who just straight-up needs a year in the practice facility. He needs to put on weight, and he needs to see plays a beat faster, which are both common for a 21yo rookie. If he can react a little faster and hold up a little better, then I think he's got the movement and aggression to become a successful pursuit LB.

I don't know what Liufau's deal is (he needs coaching on tackling, that's for sure), and Sanborn and Murray just are what they are.
Nice post.
Agree.

Sanborn All Conf at Wisconsin.

Makes a lot of tackles.

Either Eberflus gets his type of players in here next off season/draft or he needs to hit the proverbial pavement.

Flus is supposed to be a LB “whisperer.” Instead of being a strength— it is the worst performing unit on the roster.

What does it say about your coaching chops when your “specialty” and “expertise” can’t help the players that are the most directly impacted by your scheme?
Just another stupid coach hired by a stupid football owner. God I wish I didn't grow up liking the Cowboys. They are so pathetic.

Quinn had this defense top 10 all three years. It was ranked 5th his final year, then Zimmer took it all the way down to 31st over night.

Quinn is the only good DC we've had since the end of the Jimmy era.

Like Rod Marinelli was supposed to be this amazing DC who "coached up" players? The LB-ers on this team are perhaps the worst group of accumulated talent in the NFL. Like literal dog crap level. The one decent talent they have is Overshown who can't stay healthy.
On pointe, old boy, on pointe!

What pissed me off was that the players wanted him back. But Jerry and Stephen didn't even give him an offer to stay. They have all the money in the world and they just simply let Quinn go. Yes Quinn left because he offered more money. I'm sure if Jerry would have said we will match what Washington is giving you he would have stayed.

Another thing was that Jerry even let Quinn take some of the coaches with him. He took Joe Whitt as his DC. If Jerry was smart he would have just promoted Joe Whitt to def. coordinator.

Instead he brought in that overrated has-been Mike Zimmer. I hated that decision. I knew that Zimmer would destroy this defense. He eventually did.
