Bill Parcells Genius:: How Ellis Will Be Used In 3-4 Defense

GREG ELLIS WILL BE USED IN MANY WAYS::

ROLE ONE::

> Greg Ellis will be used as a strong-side linebacker in some situations in the 3-4 Defense.

^Meaning Bill Parcells reserve the right to tell the players to call a audible from the 3-4 Defense to the 4-3 which will include Chris Canty and Jason Ferguson in the middle, and Marcus Spears and Greg Ellis on the outside.

^Meaning Akin Adolyle and Demarcus Ware will be on the outside while Bradie James play inside.

ROLE TWO::

> Bobby Carpenter will be playing Defensive End in 3-4 while Greg Ellis play Strong Outside Linebacker, so for a sercurity purpose, it will switch back to the 4-3.

^Meaning Bobby Carpenter will go on out to the strong-side linebacker position, Demarcus Ware would come up as the Defensive End, Greg Ellis come up as the defensive end, Marcus Spears move inside with Ferguson, and Akin Adolye will move over to the weakside linebacker position.

> For running situations only GREG ELLIS WILL REMAIN ON THE OUTSIDE.

Possibly but you are not going to see ferguson in the lineup in nickel 4-2-5 sitatuations. I dont think he did that once last year.

Spears, canty, ratliff and maybe a guy like hatcher will play those tackle spots in the nickel.

I would imagine our main 4-2-5 would be Ware-Spears-Hatcher-Ellis
or Ware-spears-ellis-carpenter......

I dont expect to see stanley or ferguson in the 4-2-5 nickel.

Technically we dont do that. Also technically putting the fourth man on the line in the two gap defense is called over/under depending on whether or not you are crowding the weak or strong side.

Parcells two gap defense is pretty straight forward. Always has been, it is not exotic. It relies on the players winning their individual battles and being smart.

Parcells 3-4 two gap read and react defense will not do all this exotic stuff, he never has.

All this hub bub over ellis is all concerning his role in the nickel or obvious passing situations because I dont think he is going to see the field in regular situations no matter what.

We played 4 lineman in a couple of games, like the Commanders at home last year and we essentially put 5 guys on the line in seattle.

We are a 34 two gap read and react defense. Sometimes ware goes to the line of scrimmage puts his hand down and rushes, that doesnt make it the 4-3

Putting the fourth guy on the line in the 34 is called 3-4 over or under. We do alot of that.

MOst of the time we played 4 lineman it was nickel situations and we lined up 4-2-5 with newman in the slot, glenn outside and james and dat on the field.

I made a video today on the other forum I post on showing everyone of ellis sacks from last year. They are all but 1/2 of his 8 sacks from the 4-2-5 nickel. This is why I dont understand why the guy doesnt embrace it and be the best he can be at it..he got one sack out of the 3 man line and that was williams sack really.

yeah thats my point. We did it against washington alot with a standard 4-3 look and that is because they wanted to stop the run first and also in seattle there were 5 guys on the line of scrimmage alot.

And yes the nickel was a 4-2-5 all year with ware-ellis-glover almost always and a mix of canty-ratliff-spears the rest of the time.

that is why I said in my post we are a 34 two gap read and react defense. We give the over or under look when ware walks up the line of scrimmage and rushes the passer, that is NOT the 4-3.

I just looked to make sure and yes against the skins we played more of a 4 down lineman look that included coleman-glover-ferguson-ellis. This was on first down.

That was a like a 43 big set to play the run first. That is the only time I remember that alignment except seattle where we just brought like 5 guys to the line consistently to stop alexander.
