Gailey, 58, would not be a particularly splashy pick for the Bills. But he would fit G.M. Buddy Nix's profile: He's an offensive coach with head coaching experience.

So would Brian Billick and he at least has a Super Bowl win on his resume. Is he that bad or is there some sort of connection between Nix and Gailey I am missing?

Gailey is a quality assistant coach and brings some things to the table, but as a head coach, he is decidedly mediocre. I do not understand how this is much of an improvement over Jauron other than the fact he is an offensive-minded coach.

I feel bad for Bills fans...Where I'm from, pretty much everyone is a fan of the Bills...It's the closest thing to a hometeam we have up here. Terrible choice, imo...

I felt this way about Jauron and this just seems like the exact same hire to me...

I'm a big Gailey fan.

The Buffalo job is probably the worst in the NFL after Oakland, so their choices were limited.

But this guy is a good football coach. I wish him the best.

Per Jay Glazer.

What an awful franchise. I'd genuinely hate to be a fan of that team.

Any of you clowns disappointed with keeping Wade and Garrett should be relieved we have them. Wade/Garrett might not be elite, but they are nowhere near as bad as some teams situations.
Didn't he take the Cowboys to the playoffs 2 out of 2 years?

Yep. This was back when Jerry was delusional and he thought the talent on the team was better than it was. He has since stated that he was wrong to get rid of Gailey.

The reportedly got turned down by at least 6 people that they wanted. They finally got their #1 choice on their 2nd list of guys. Bad situation when coaches would rather stay in their present co-ordinator positions than interview for a head coaching job in the NFL. That tells you all you need to know.

I'm surprised that Gailey is getting a HC job. I thought someone might pick him up as an OC or a position coach.

The Bills must really be in disarray. This hire is a stop gap at best. Let's say Gailey coaches them to a couple of .500 seasons. That would be considered a success in Buffalo, but what do you have to show for it?

The only way I think this can turn out good for The Bills is if this hire is meant to be a stop gap for a couple of years while a better fit is developed elsewhere or is brought onto Chan's staff and developed in house.

Can Chan find a Sean Payton or a Ron Rivera type of guy ready to bring in and groom to take over?

For those that wanted Cowher here, if he were to return to the NFL this season, Gailey was his choice as offensive coordinator.

I always like Gailey and wish him the best.

People tend to forget what kind roster Gailey had to work. We pretty much blew off all the draft picks between 1994-1998. Gailey was put in the impossible situation when he was hired here and managed to getting in playoff in both year. His record of 10-6 and 8-8 was not exactly great but way better than three 5-11 after he left or 6-10 before he got here.

As far as he was let go by Todd Haley. Well, KC chiefs did not exactly become the offensive powerhouse after Haley took over (25th in offense).

I am not saying he is going to be next Bellick, but he may do an adequate job in Buffalo.

Troy Aikman gave Gailey more of a raw deal than anyone in Valley Ranch. LOL:rolleyes:
