Bills, about to hire Gailey as HC

Most people dont remember that Jones didnt out and out fire Gailey, he wanted Gailey to hire a new offensive coordinator. Gailey refused and then got canned.

The guy's one of the most mediocre coaches I've ever seen. He'll never be a big time winner at any level, and he's proven that.

Hey!!!!!!!!!! We got one of those too ...... Wade for President!!!

Gailey hasnt been a good head coach on the pro or college level. They would of been better off pursuing Garrett.

As would have we.

I liked Gailey, always thought Jerry gave him a really raw deal. Best of luck to him, but what a hard situation.

I tend to agree. I know it's not a popular opinion on this site, but he was dealing with a team in turmoil with - let's be honest here - a less than stellar talent pool and fairly horrible drafts (Jerry's pets).

But, oh, what a situation to try to coach in up there.

Bills seem to like rooting in the Cowboys' trash. First Terrell Owens, now Chan Gailey?

Maybe Chan will hire Campo as his DC. :D

I always thought Chan's offensive philosophy was a terrible mix for our (diminishing) skill players. Jerry was either insane for hiring him (possible) or Chan deserved some fault for being so inflexible.

I remember seeing a story about how he loved rolling quarterbacks out, and how he tried that with Aikman. If you recall, we did have Aikman on the move a little bit more back then. Strike one.

Then there was his belief, which was documented at the time, that he didn't believe in having a "No. 1" receiver. He wanted three or four threats focused equally. This was with a still-healthy Irvin. Strike two.

Then there was his insistence on the running-back-by-committee approach. It's the one thing that actually served us well since Emmitt's skills were eroding by that point.

Another memory: I still remember Jones walking about 10 feet behind him after we lost to Minnesota in the playoffs. Then he let him get ripped for a few days before firing him. Not nice of Jerry. Chan even held a press conference saying he thought he was fired.

foreshadowing? :laugh2:im kidding

just sounded crazy to me when i read it

In all fairness to Wade, the knock on him has been his postseason success. However, if you look at his regular season records, he has won about 60% of his games as a HC in the NFL.

That means he wins about 9-10 games a year.

I think Gailey is a good choice for the Bills.

They need someone with a good offensive mind and he does.
Don't know if he's a good fit for the Bills, but I was going to post that if Garrett leaves, we should hire Chan to take his place. I think he would be a better coach to utilize Tony's skills than Jason...

bleh, i was hoping they'd take Garrett of our hands :bang2:

There was so much wrong with the guy it'd probably be impossible to list it all, but you are off to a good start.

There was Irvin being on the sideline in obvious passing situations. 3 or 4 other guys would be out there (the Ogden's, Billy Davis', Ernie Mills etc etc) of the world, but no Irvin.

There was his flawed offensive philosophy of basically ignoring the middle of the field in the passing game and instead designing all the routes to the outside of the hashes.

There was a reluctance to throw the ball downfield (by design), especially in the intermediate areas (something Aikman was superior at)

There was the absolute assinine comment of "we want WR's who can block first and catch the ball second"

The guys a doofus.

Cool!

What drove me absolutely bat **** crazy about him was the season we lined up our defensive tackles slightly towards the outside shoulders of the offensive guards. The center had nobody over him and a free release into the linebackers. If we weren't stacking the box or crowding in our linebackers, the lead draw up the gut was gashing us at will. I think that was during Gailey's tenure.

Cool!

Coach CZ "experts" dont want here:

Phillips 81-54, .600% overall. Just here, 34-17 .667%

Coaches CZ "experts" want here:

Cowher 149-90, .623%. All with the same, very talented team. Cowher has 12postseason wins, 4 of which came in that bogus championship season. Only twice has he coached a team to more than 1 postseason win.

Fisher 136-110, .553%, All with the same team. He's made the playoffs only 6times and won only 5 playoff games (3 of which were in the same season)

Fisher and Cowher also both have multiple 10+ loss seasons, Wade's never had one.

I'm not claiming Wade is great by any means, but the idea that some have that some of these other guys are just super human coaches and Wade is garbage just isnt true either.

How dare he average a winning record when so many coaches fail to even come close. Spoiled brat fans is what we've got.

Awarded for Common Sense.

You might have to wait awhile for your million dollars though.

Chan Gailey the coach that was afraid to throw the ball down the middle of the field deep because "there's a Safety in the middle of the field"....he sucked.
