So now people will just fixate on Melton until he gets tagged or signed long term by the Bears

Who is after Melton on the List?

There is always another name, no matter how crazy.

Wait...is the OT that people screamed for (in back to back offseasons) from Baltimore still out there?

So much for that pipe dream. We probably won't have the money to make a real big splash in FA.

Agreed.

If we get a few players in FA they will probably be more of the backup/depth variety.

Although there might be a decent player picked up after the draft and when other teams start making cuts.

I just don't expect much of anything big to happen.

However what I do dread is the inevitable whining that will happen when they don't sign some big name after a short time.

The whole...This team is signing this guy and that team is signing that guy while we just sit here doing nothing...whine cry moan.

People just need to be prepared for a lackluster FA period for the cowboys this year.

That is what I expect. Unless Jerruh tries another Nmadi.

I think I read somewhere we might have enough to actually sign one 'good' FA and maybe a couple of fillers. I suspect we don't have the money for or won't go after a big name looking for multiple bargains to add depth and competition.

I don't know if my heart and blood pressure could take that kind of roller coaster FA ride like it did that time. One minute thinking they had him, than not, than again and not.

I get enough heart rate spikes watching these up and down games.:laugh1:

It would be nice if we pulled off another Laroi Glover type signing.

Guy that we got for cheap and more than paid off. One of the better FA signings we made over the years (people may laugh at that but I do believe that).

Well there goes that.....

Very good safety and I hate they did that too but I prefer Dallas looking at Andy Levitre and Henry Melton. The goal this offseason is to build both lines.

is this a multi-step process or the shotgun approach?

so will you tell us to expect an 8-8 season now or hold it for after the draft/lackluster FA

to pre-empt the moaning, you know?

i thought that stephen jones said that we have (or can create) the cap room to sign anyone we want
hence, anyone we dont sign is someone we dont feel we need, no?
or is he lying?

i guess i never understood why it is a sign of true fandom to expect poor personnel decisions and a mediocre performance year after year?

must have missed that memo

That's exactly the kind of signing I'm talking about. We used to sign cut veteran DBs and move them to S and they thrived for a time. Not sure why we don't do that anymore. Maybe it's the cap and the salary demands of veterans as well as them being progress stoppers.

Glover is a great example. Man, that is exactly what we need at the 3.

Signing every big name free agent out of the gate of FA does not turn a losing team into a Superbowl team.

If it Did Jerry would have more Superbowls and Danny Snyder would have a dynasty already.

Whining about going out and spending big bucks as quick as possible for the biggest names has not proven to be a winning concept...more often than not it works the direct opposite of what many fans seem to think.

Maybe if you have actually read most of my posts in the fan section the last few weeks you would notice that I am flat out irritated at Jerry Jones and the state of this team.

But those that complain about big FA spendings and those that also complain about Jerry Jones screwing this team up should have a talk with themselves because a big part of Jerry Jones screwing this team up is trying to over spend in FA over the years which leads to poor cap situations and a lack of learning to put more emphasis on the draft.

So EXCUUUUUUSE me if I get irritated by those that whine and moan about not spending big in FA as fast as possible when I have seen it fail time and time again when he has done it.

The consistently good teams don't ever make frequent big splashes in free agency. We're better off shopping from the bargain bin and getting good value players instead. We don't need 2011's Mario Williams or 2010's Dunta Robinson on this team to get better.

to each his own i guess

i think that the fans of a team that has a track record of making poor personnel decisions and underachieving on the field have the right to complain if they see "more of the same"

i wont get into the whole jerry jones thing here for obvious reasons

:laugh1: Which is what I was talking about...why would someone continue to complain about something that has a history of not working?

Why would you, or whoever, complain about NOT spending big in FA when it has proven time and time again to not work with this team.

I don't even know if you are reading what I am saying or you are just arguing to argue.

"More of the Same" would be complaining that we are not spending big in FA...when we have MANY times in the past with overall bad results...just like many teams that spend too much in FA (Commanders) time and time again and do not get bang for their buck (very few exceptions like London).

So it sounds like you are arguing because you don't like the idea that someone says something about someone complaining even if it is against idiotic decisions that have hurt the franchise time and time again.

So again...arguing to argue or you are not reading what I am saying.

Haley was traded to the Cowboys but I understand your point.

the glover signing Brain brought up was a good one. Bigg Davis was good for us for a few years. TO was a good signing on his first contract. We shouldn't have signed him to a second contract.
