Bills GM Admits 1st-Round Trade Was Direct Move To Block Cowboys From Getting TE

They didn't need one in round 2 either
They wanted to improve the run blocking.

They drafted the TE they consider the best run blocker in this class.

He wouldn't have been there at 90. Easy to see why he was the pick at 58.

This. When people think other teams do certain things to specifically stop the Cowboys is laughable.

No NFL front office in the modern era stops to think about how they can stop Dallas lol.
It's not just Dallas but every team moves up in front of teams to get the player that team would have taken or who they think that team might take. Otherwise why trade up

What’s even more impressive is I didn’t need to meet with Laporta to know fans were undervaluing him and thought he was as good if not better than Mayer.
Did not get the Kinkaid and Mayer hype. I mean as second rounders I got it. Not as firsts.

I had Kincaid as a 1.

Everyone else was a 2nd rounder to me.

I still think Musgrave is the guy that might end up being the beast of this class though.

I mean as far as Cowboys go. I’d never take any of these tight ends in the first. But I wouldn’t as a Bill either and they did.

I think they do it to get their guy but I think it’s assuming who that team wants.. it was clear to see the Giants would go receiver so Eagles traded up to get him. Cowboys are fooling these teams into thinking they want a certain position.

You love to knock on the front office, don't you ? I guess they should of traded 4 years worth of #1 picks to get into the top 3 and pick the legendary Dalton Kincaid. Would that make you impressed with the FO ? Dallas wound up with a better, more unique player. There's 10 Dalton Kincaids in this draft. Not nearly as many Mazi Smiths.
To be clear the FO has earned no respect over the time of ownership. I am not sure many would argue this point.

Oh I agree. The TE talk in the first round was a smoke screen.

Teams do trade in front of teams to keep them from getting certain players though

well it will be interesting to see how the 3 TE's do the next 3 years, kincaid,Mayer, and Luke S.
I only saw hl reels, but I liked mayer best.
Luke was good, but he seems to go down too easily, and came up short of 1st down on several plays because he is easily tackled.

The fact they took a TE in round 2 makes it pretty obvious TE was a consideration in round 1. Dallas normally just follows their draft board and until that board is leaked by accident, we have no idea where Mazi was relative to Kincaid.

Nobody expected the Cowboys to draft a first round DT, or i'm 99% sure somebody would have jumped in front us for Mazi.
