Why would they lie? Very good reasons. The last thing you want is for your first round pick to think he wasn't your intended pick. That's not a good intro to the team. (lol)
Do they care though? They sure were raving about Paxton Lynch when they took Dak…and Jerry couldn’t shut up about Manziel when they took Martin. McClay also said they wanted corner not Micah.

See Jerry's comments on "not talking about TE" after the first day.

The fact they took a TE in round 2 makes it pretty obvious TE was a consideration in round 1. Dallas normally just follows their draft board and until that board is leaked by accident, we have no idea where Mazi was relative to Kincaid.

Nobody expected the Cowboys to draft a first round DT, or i'm 99% sure somebody would have jumped in front us for Mazi.
I don't think Kincaid was a target in the first round for Dallas. Main reason is because he isn't a good blocker, at all. Dallas likes their TEs to be able to block.

I believe it was a smokescreen so nothing came out about them wanting Mazi. Parsons even has the text messages before the draft showing him and Quinn wanted Mazi.

We literally picked a TE in round 2. You arguing they didn't want one of the top 3 TE's?

More likely, they gambled someone would fall to them. I think la Porta went higher than they expected.
You saying that the drafted a TE in the 2nd because they didn't get Kincaid in the 1s.

That's odd because they were very focused on Schoonmaker's blocking ability (TE coach was on local sports talk radio).
- Kincaid was considered a sub-par blocker.

I'm not arguing Kinkaide was the target. Might have been La Porta. But to say TE was not a consideration as some are doing here is not supported by anything that actually happened in the draft.

I'm saying they drafted Schoon b/c the other TEs were gone. Was Schoon always the second round target? Doubtful. I think the Cowboys thought they had a shot at La Porta in round 2 where most mock drafts had him going. So, they could take Mazi and still get their TE.

They have to talk up his blocking. What else do you expect the day after he was drafted? The team was never going to admit that he was not the intended target but rather a consolation prize.

The only way any of this becomes clear is if the draft board is accidentally leaked again.

I tend to agree that the Bills did take Kincaid away from Dallas. I don't mind the Mazi pick, but Jerry intended to get Kincaid. The desperate selection of Schoonmaker in the 2nd confirms to me they wanted or felt they needed a TE. Of course Jerry is not gonna admit they got screwed again. Not a good look.
This is what happened. Also, this happens. Jerry West used to talk about it when he was the Lakers GM.

What’s crazy is the amount of apologists creating a narrative that Jerry fooled everyone.

The guy that wanted got picked and they recouped and took a big, athletic DT. It happens. The mistake was the giant reach at 58.

I don't think the Cowboys were going to take Kincaid in the first so the Bills are admitted the Cowboys smokescreen fooled them.
So we take one in the 2nd. We wanted Kincaid. Well the Joneses wanted Kincaid

Well imo drafting Mazi caused them to waste their 2nd round. That guy isn't going to make an impact at all.

Misleading headline, they didn't do it to block the Cowboys but to get the player they had targeted. They could care less what the Cowboys do in the draft
Stop trying to teach. I love listening to the propaganda. Lol it’s comical. 100% they could care less what we do.

I highly doubt La Porta was a serious consideration in the first round by any team.

Not only that at 26 only Kincaid was the only TE taken. Dallas could have picked any TE they wanted at 26.

It's clear that TE in the first round was a clear smokescreen and Mazi was the target. Parsons has the text messages between him and Quinn before the draft even started.
