I find it odd that the success of this special teams group has decreased in just one season. I can't say they've been atrocious, but Harris certainly hasn't been able to break any this year. I would need to look at the stats, but just based on observation they are below-average in my opinion. I just don't get how this changes from one year to the next.

I have not compared the personnel on this year's Teams to last year's Teams, but there are bound to be a number of different players this year. Not trying to making excuses for the coach, just saying the players may be the difference, to a significant degree.

I think its more of a bad mix then anything else. ST coaches have to make do with what they have and sometimes they just do not have enough

Anyone remember the one two or three linebackers we signed last year just for ST? I can't remember their names but we traded for or signed at least two players that were considered "st aces" so between them Danny McCray & Harris we had quite a few home run hitters on ST coverage. We lack that this year. It seems our depth players this year are playing much better at their depth position but not shining on ST. Fair trade I suppose? Still unfortunate

Special teams isn't going to decide the division.

It can have a big impact if you let Sproles beat you on a kick or punt return. I have to agree with Jimmy there are 3 phases offense, defense and special team and you need to be able to win those 3 phases.

yep. and the blocked FG in the Arizona game was significant enough that you could argue without it, the L becomes a W against a common opponent of a division rival, plus the head to head tiebreaker.

No doubt failing to come up with a FG or getting punt blocked, fumbling a kickoff or punt can cost you a game and right now in crunch time you can't afford to be making these costly mistakes. Having said that I'm not looking for fire special team coach, I'm looking for him to get his unit going and helping us win games. Philly special teams have been outstanding this season with punt blocks for TD's as well as Sproles in the return game. Bisaccia better have his troops ready

the biggest issue is the blocks. thats just poor effort
you have so much turnover in players each year on st's that it's hard to be elite year after year there. right now harris has'nt had a ny big returns that did'nt get a penalty. but he is still 11th in pr, and 10th in kr. not tops but still solid and the only player doing that on both returns. some is probably blocking which is obvious from the blocks.

we are 20th on kickoff returns and 5th in punt returns. kickoff could use improvement and the blocks are a little concerning but to say its time for st coach to go is a little over the top

to me the biggest concern is the blocks. you simpley can't allow blocked punts and fg's. the returns i think will take care of themselves. by the end of the year i think harris will be in the top 10 in both and thats pretty good. wait till he is gone and people will appreciate what he had done here

I would say the coverage team matters as well especially vs Philly. Sproals already has 2 punt returns for TD and avg 17 yards per return.

Maybe not directly, but it would be nice to get the ball past the 20 once in a while. A return for a TD from time to time wouldn't hurt either.

returns for td's are very rare. there has been a handful of punt and kick returns from the entire nfl so far this season

True but as the winter weather starts kicking in special teams and return games will play bigger parts as fewer kicks will be out of the endzone and returnable. Even if you don't get the TD you can set the offense up in excellent field position. Bottom line Cowboys just need to start producing better in special teams overall.

Our special teams have just been terrible this year. If there is anything that will cause us to lose against the Eagles, and thus not win this division, it would be our special teams versus their special teams...

Not sure what happened between this year and last year.
It does seems like a lot of problems; however, in terms of the blocked kicks/punts, one was due to the LB that the coaches didn't want in the first place in part because he was not a good ST player. It was reported that the scouts pushed to keep him on the roster. On the kick against the Jags, the defender split Blocks by Tyron and Free. I don't know how the ST coach can teach those two how to block better. The block that seems like coaching was the one where Hanna was lined up too tight to the formation.

i agree. but to me the biggest issue is not returns but our blocking. you can't have fg's and punts blocked. those two things should be almost automatic. thats the area that most concerns me. and coverage of returns would be second.
