When I was 12, we were picnicking near a river in the Smokey Mts and a mother and her two cubs wandered through camp. She was stunned, then went on a rampage. I was the first one up on someone's Winnebago

I was camping in northern Ontario with my parents when I was in my early teens and my dad prevented a possible bear attack. A mother and her 2 kids were going to approach 2 bear cubs, my dad said "stop, turn around and go back please, I am man telling you this for your safety". They listened, my Dad talked to her, explained that the mother was near by and would attack if she felt her cubs were threatened. The lady had never seen a bear before, essentially had no clue to how dangerous an animal they can be. I absolutely love those big mammals...

It's a black bear.

If there's one bear that is more bark than bite, it's a black bear. They often bluff a charge, but they get scared off easy. She turned completely away from it, basically offering herself to the bear, and it still didn't touch her.

Unless it's a mama with cubs, then you might be in trouble.

Amazing that a bunch of people would pull over to snap a pic of a black bear, you'd think they'd spotted a polar bear or something.

A lot of people have never seen a bear in the wild. Maybe they're all on vacation from Mexico. :muttley:

Are you up early too, or are you up late?
Los Angeles, up late. But I don’t sleep much. I’ll be up around 6-7am PST. On the weekend if I get till 8am it’s a glorious sleep in :)

I just don’t sleep well brother. Reality has me grooving gnarly in the music thread, so I’m a little amped right now. Still, I’ll be up in 5 hrs
