So we're hiking just outside of Boise and there are signs warning that bears are around. We hear footsteps ahead of us, really fast footsteps, and these two guys come hauling butt all wide eyed and yelling bear!!!! Bear!!!!! We didn't wait around and still don't know if they were just screwing around or if there really was a bear but there were fresh claw marks on some of the trees.

My wife said "hey, I've got this how to prevent a bear attack pamphlet" and I asked if she thought the bear would pause and let us take an "information you can use" break and read it?

Bears don't come into my living room so I let them have the woods. What pisses me off about that video is that if the bear had attacked that idiot, they would have destroyed it and it's just trying to survive and being a bear.

Do you carry bear spray?

lol, she is lucky to be alive. Black bears have been known to become aggressive toward humans. Especially when they are hungry or with babies.

There have been a few bear sightings in the town I live in over the last couple of years. I just recently moved into a new house and I pretty much live in the woods now. I have deer in my backyard almost every day. Fox and other animals also come around often.

Nope, wasn't really planning on any bear encounters, pretty well used trails in that area since it was close to Boise. We still hiked there and we made plenty of noise when we did. We tried to not sound like food.

I bought bear spray when I was in Jasper National Park. 45 a can for the less potent spray. 60 a can if you want spray that is effective against grizzlies.

This happened in Jasper a few years back ... he was very lucky.

I grew up in West Milford, NJ. My friends and I would go camping a few mins into the woods, and never heard anything about bears.
20 years later there were reportedly 1300 living there.

There has even been the odd storey from Jasper and Banff National Parks of tourist taking selfies with grizzlies in the background...

Be noisy and most will shy away.

I don't want to get anywhere near a bear. When my parents were newly weds, they went camping in a place where they warned you not to keep food in your tent, so they hung their cooler up in a tree. Other people who ignored the warning got attacked in their tents, but the bears left them alone. I'll just stay away from bears, thank you very much.

Bears are very destructive animals. When I a youngster I was camping in northern Ontario and a bear attacked a pop trailer ... destroyed the one side of the trailer, they left food in the trailer ... fortunately the family was out for the evening ... hard lesson to learn.

Population explosions are the result of poor cable or satellite reception.

Always make sure you are not slowest person in your group when in bear country
Good advice unless you're out strolling with Coach. He'll just trip you and take off running.
