Anyone going out to the stores or just ordering online from sites such as Newegg and Amazon.

Also what is everyones feelings on stores opening at 8pm on Thanksgiving?

My girl friend loves it, she is a black friday shopper. I will be in Dallas for the football game but she is expecting me back on friday around noon to go shopping with her. Yeah me... :bang2:

If you work for a Hospital only Thursday is a holiday and you have to work Friday at normal pay rates.

If you are a nurse or a few positions that require you to work Thursday and are Hourly you get double time.

Having them work Friday does not deserve over time pay or Holiday pay by any means.

The amount of work those employees put in far exceeds their normal duties. A company that pays them extra is standing out as doing right by their employees. A nurse is not a equal comparison as they have no insane spike in their work.

True but many of these employees are part time jobs. Many stores hire extra staff for this time of the year and they are not full time workers.

I did a black friday once, that was last year at Best Buy. I get a rush over electronics and the deals on them. We were in the market for a new TV at that time, so I thought it would be cool to stand in line for a few hours and grab(steal) a TV for peanuts.

Big mistake. I got in line at 10pm, BB was set to open at midnight. It was a rainy, cold night in San Francisco. I finally got in the store around 3am and was out by 5am with a new plasma smart TV for almost half the cost. Looking back, it was worth it but I will never attempt that again.

This Friday, I will head there around 8am because there will still be deals on a lot of stuff, don't need a TV or a computer this year so it should be ok.

Seasonal employees could be viewed as an exception but in my view these businesses are making more in this day then they usually make in a week so paying full time and year round part timers making a few extra dollars on The busiest day of the year is a nice thing for the business to do plus instead of miserable employees moping around that day they will have a spike in morale. It could be argued as a win-win. These people make 9-12 per hour so time and a half is not expensive relatively for black friday.

1000 Walmarts have employees planning to walk out on Friday. If they were paying time and a half this problem could most likely be evaded.

I'm surprised it took this long for stores to try and get a head start on the competition.

Why don't they open up with half their stock on Wednesday?

Then you no nothing about nurses or health care if you are spouting that non sense.

How are they doing stuff beyond their normal duties stocking, greeting cashing people out they do it daily the only difference is the amount of sales done in a day.

Going out for Black Thursday night for my first (hopefully last) time this week. Need a new TV and there are a lot of good deals on Samsungs at Wally World this year. Definitely don't think working a holiday at regular pay is right, where I work if you work a holiday you get 8 hrs holiday pay plus double time for your actual shift, turns out to be a nice chunk of change.

Yes these businesses are making money that is how they stay in business. If some want to walk in this economy then walk there are many who will gladly take the job. Sorry I have worked cruddy jobs and bad hours it is life you do what you have to do.

Now I do sympathize with full time workers but when talking part time NO

Lol..."It's nice to do"...Really? You must not know much about retail operations or how business works.

All the idiots that fail to show up for their job as agreed to in the contract they signed when they were hired should be fired. Almost every retail job application has a field to check off availability. If they checked off that they can work on Thursdays or Fridays, they better damn well show up.

No skill, low wage employees can be found anywhere.

True and this is the time of year that many merchants are trying to make up for a slow year. This is bread and butter time for business and how this holiday season goes will have an impact on these businesses and their employees

Depending on the business, up to 1/2 of all their revenue is earned from now through Jan 15th.

I managed a chain of electronic stores in a previous life. People have no idea how critical this time of the year is. It will make or break the year for most companies. The fact the greedy unions are looking to cash in on that vulnerability pisses me off to no end. Bite the hand that feeds you and see what happens. Hostess is a perfect example.

I agree. Union striked them right out of a job in the Hostess situation. Got some good news and bad news Good news is the strike is over, bad news Hostess is shutting their doors so you don't have a job. Marry Christmas.

Unions vote, there's not one "individual" making the decisions.

Union vote and there is a lot of pressure by the heads of the union. Don't give me this free will crap. Union screwed these workers and yes they were dumb enough to listen to their leaders.

Guys

Any tips for buying a new TV during Black Friday?

I need a 3D Internet TV. I need 55 inch or higher. Samsung or Sony. Not interested in any other brands.

What is the best strategy? I have never done this Black Friday craziness but I need a new TV and I would like to take advantage of Black Friday if I can
