Bleacher Report -Tony Romo Is On Pace To Be Better Than Peyton Manning

I agree ...... that was my point ..... stats do not define success like Rack and Double "trouble" would have you think.

And superbowls are not the sole measuring stick of and individual player in the NFL. That's just plain dumb.

Anyone that thinks Trent Dilfer was more successful than Dan Marino AS AN INDIVIDUAL PLAYER is full of all kinds of fail.

I think you are confusing talent and stats with success.

Lebron James is far more talented than Manu Ginobli ..... but Manu has had more success in his career.

I am not talking about talent or stats ..... I am talking about success in the NFL.

Which is a team measure and, as long as we are talking about individuals being better than one another, has no room in the discussion.

Thats not what I am or have been talking about ..... I think Peyton is possibly the most talented QB of all time .... but he has not been as successful as guys who have multiple Super Bowl wins.

Rick and Double T are trying to make it that .... not me.

Look at my very first post on this subject.

Success is more than just accomplishing the ultimate team goal.

I think that is what everyone is trying to convey to you.

And I misspoke when I said "better".

I meant successful.

Basically this thread is divided because zrin thinks success is defined in terms of team success whereas other see success as encompassing personal accolades and achievements.

Someone said people could argue over anything on this site a while back.

They were right.

So do you think Tony has been more successful than Eli Manning so far in his career?

I dont ..... but I think he is a better QB.

My very first post on this was that a huge number of QB's have been more successful than Peyton has so far in his career ..... and in my opinion thats true.

If you're going by superbowls ONLY, then yes. But there's more to a QB's success than just superbowls which - by the way - are not won and lost by QB's. QB's are just a member of the team. If QB's "Won" or "Lost" superbowls there wouldn't be a need for the other 52 guys on the roster.

So when you factor in EVERYTHING, there's no way in hell - for example - Terry Bradshaw was more successful than Peyton Manning. Bradshaw's TEAMS was more successful than Manning's teams, but HE wasn't.

*Note the capitilized words used to stress certain parts of my sentences. Pretty nifty, eh?

I totally agree. I guess if the Cowboys win a Super Bowl, Romo better be giving himself all the praise in the press conference.

"Yep, so glad I won the super bowl. We couldn't have done it without me. I really want to thank all the people that made this possible, like me, myself, and I. I really hope the other guys enjoy riding my coat tails."

Some people really forget it is a team sport. Romo can't play defense, and Ratliff can't run a slugo.

I heard an interview with Rodger Staubach, he said Romo is a lot better then he is given credit for and is right now one of the best.

Roger bleeds Cowboy blue. He also was very high on Q. Carter.

Learn the difference between a players success and a teams success.

That was a really good read. The author was as fair as he could be in his comparisons. Why can't some people accept that Romo is a really good QB?
There are idiots everywhere.

With ball security he has, but his accuracy in the end zone and down feed hasn't. In order for him to be Peyton Manning good he has to improve on those two things IMO. He also is not as elusive as he once was.

Here is Romo's QB Rating for 2007-2009 for his attempts in the redzone:

2007 - 83.1
2008 - 97.7
2009 - 81.5

Here is Romo's QB Rating for 2007-2009 for passes attempts 21+ yards:

2007 - 98.6
2008 - 97.7
2009 - 91.2

There really isn't a lot of room for improving.

What a shock. Another positive Cowboy/player thread has gone right down the crapper. Gotta love this place.

Incredibly stupid article, and unbelievably stupid comparison.

When Manning was 22, he started 16 games for the Colts. Romo didn't play a down in the NFL. Advantage Manning.

Age 23, same story (plus Manning helped the Colts improve from 3-13 to 13-3). Advantage Manning.

Age 24, same story. Advantage Manning.

Age 25, same story. Advantage Manning.

When Manning was 26, he started 16 games for the Colts. Romo started only 10 for the Cowboys, but arguably played better than Manning over that period. Push.

When Manning was 27, he started 16 games for the Colts, , led the NFL in completion % and passing yards, and went to the Conference Championship game. Romo started 16 games for the Cowboys and had an excellent season as they went 13-3. Slight advantage Manning.

When Manning was 28, he became PEYTON MANNING, setting the passer rating and passing TD records. Romo started 13 games and had his worst year as a starter. Insanely huge advantage Manning.

Age 29, slight advantage Manning.

Romo's 30 now. When Manning was 30, he had a great year and his team won the Super Bowl.

Look, it's ridiculous to compare Romo to Manning. Completely absurd. And that's not an insult to Romo. Romo's excellent. I'm thrilled to have him. But he ain't Peyton Manning. And at age 30, he's not "on pace" to make the leap Manning made at age 28.

I already know it ..... learn the difference in gaudy stats and success.

Or dont ..... really do not care.

You're crying cuz not everyone agrees that Romo is as good as Manning? Seriously?

I never said that. I'm complaining about every time there is a positive thread on here, someone has to come in and start something and the whole thread ends up going downhill.

Well would it be better to compare Romo to Manning Light(Eli)?

Just a couple old posts from Double Trouble

From a certain point of view, I don't think it's unreasonable at all to put Jimmy Johnson over Tom Landry. I'm a huge fan of both.

I just look at one as a model of consistency, and the other as probably the greatest short-term success in the super bowl era. Both were elite coaches in different ways.

Jimmy Johnson #1 because of his super bowl success

What you can't seem to wrap your brain around is that many of those guys started from day 1. Romo first started in like day 1001. Comparing their stats to Romo is meaningless. Staubach had many games where he threw 15 or so passes, while Romo usually throws double that many.

What's relevant is looking at the whole picture. How good the defense is, what the record is, and yes, most importantly, what happened in the playoffs. If you pull out his #s before December, they're phenomenal. Probably the best in the game since he took over. Unfortunately, they don't play the Super Bowl on Thanksgiving weekend.

Bottom line, the Cowboys have started strong and finished weak every year Romo has played. His career is severely lacking until he turns that around. It's not as though he's played fantastic, only to have his teammates let him down. Like last year in Philly and in Pittsburgh.

Romo is not as successful as other QBs because he had not won in the playoffs or won a superbowl

It's possible to think Romo is a good QB, but not put him at Manning's level. It's easy to take a slice of time to compare, but the difference is that we know Manning ended up reaching another level and he won the Super Bowl, and we don't know if Romo ever will get over the hump to that level. Until that happens there is no equality between the two.
