As a bledsoe fan I will admit that I think he played lousy (for whatever reasonssssssssss!) but if he has to take ALL the blame for losing I hope he gets at least his share of the love when the Cowboys win. What happened to the defense that allowed all those points???? Bledsoe was not good after the first two series BUT I think the team effort also SUCKED!:(

Well the D was not as good as they could have been. But at the same time, when they are on the field the whole game because the offense, either can't move the ball or turnovers,, they will wear out, esp in High Humidity.

As bad as it looked, it wasn't too bad.

It's week 1, and we have some place to rebuild.

I think that our defense was just gassed after Bledsoe threw those INT's. No worries though, I think Bledsoe will be back on track by the Washington game or Week 3.

When the offense turns the ball over, and the defense only has 20 yards of greenery to defend after that, how can you blame the defense?

Turning the ball over on your side of the 50 is the kiss of death.

Defense made some mistakes of their own that helped Jacksonville keep drives alive. 2 face mask and a roughing the passer were big help to the Jags and pass coverage was not that good. I agree the offense was not a big help but defense did not play up to their potential

No problems with Bledsoe getting his share of love.

sick of the vanilla 3-4. I'm not asking us to be Steeleresque but damn can we be more aggressive?

One thing for sure, we can't have footballs hitting our DB's in the hands and not getting the turnover. Henry needs a whooping for that one he dropped. Dude seriously needs to go stand in the corner.

After the 1st quarter against the Jags, the Cowboys offense and defense both started to struggle but I have to confess that I was more disappointed with the play of our "D". We knew that our offense had noticable weaknesses before the start of this season but our vaunted "D" was going to carry this team until Bledsoe & Co. would mesh together into a scoring beast.

Given that it's still early in the season, it was still frustrating from a fan's perspective to see the defense meltdown in the fashion that they did last Sunday.

The defense was called for only two penalties all game -- James' face mask, which had no effect (the Jaguars punted three plays later) and Roy's roughing the passer, which might or might not have cost us 3 points. The Jaguars would have had third-and-2 from our 32, so they already were within field-goal range, even if they didn't pick up the first down on the next play. The penalty just made the kick shorter, if anything.

The biggest problems for the defense were the short field Jacksonville had after two of Bledsoe's interceptions, Henry's dropped interception and the Jags' large receivers making good plays (legally or illegally) on a few passes that seemed to be defended fairly well.

I have been quick to defend Zimmer and Parcells on defensive woes in the past. I still maintain that offense was our big issue in that game.

THAT BEING SAID - our front, including the line and LBers, did NOT provide adequate pressure on Leftwich. Our defensive line scheme is pee-wee vanilla, and I defy anyone to disagree. I don't care what Parcells says about defending straight up and beating you all the way, you have to stunt and disguise sometimes. That was a pathetic performance.

You won't get any disagreement from me. Good post.

BTW, Crown, good call on recommending me starting the Chargers defense/st in my FFL matchup.

I expected more from the defense too, but, remember, they did not get a lot of playing time in the preseason...there were a lot of 3 and outs...

Now that the game planning is going on from other teams, they get a chance to see what they really are. Also, in the Jax game, they were on the field to much because of the ints...

Now, Zimmer and Parcells need to open it up and use some creative stunts and blitzes...get some pressure on Brunell...

Can they? I bet they can. Will they? I guess we will find out.

I would agree with that, but the pass rush was non existant and IMO the bigger reason we lost...its why we lose every yr...somebody in this franchise just cant figure it out...it aint the (lack of) talent anymore...

I'd say the evidence points to no...and the thing about not being on the field much in preseason is a major lame-o excuse, its also a lame excuse to say they were on the field too much against Jacksonville...THEY (the defense) were the reason they were on the field too much, they couldnt rush the QB and therefore allowed Leftiwch to complete 400 passes in a row...

you can either rush the passer or cant...you can either create pressure or you cant...its yr number seven here for Mr Zimmer, and he still hasnt shown he knows how to do much

and ultimately thats Parcell's fault...
