Blind squirrels and broken clocks

As we all watch our stubbornly foolish GM drag his feet once again in a coaching search, the better head coaching candidates are getting hired by other more proactive teams with a clear plan to try and win a championship. Meanwhile we have a marketing plan. Sell, sell, sell. Wash, rinse, repeat. Yes…It’s discouraging but there’s always even a sliver of hope.

Honestly, as long as Jerry is running things, our “sliver of hope“ to ever even get close to a championship comes down to two old sayings which I believe are all we can hope for in the Jerry era:
  • ”Even a blind squirrel occasionally catches a nut.”
  • ”Even a broken clock is right twice a day.”
That‘s what our future hopes are pinned to. Basically, Lady Luck must have sweet mercy on us. And in today’s NFL, occasionally a blind squirrel catches a nut, or a broken clock is right twice.

Here are some examples of “blind squirrel” teams of the last two decades that made it to a conference championship.
  • Believe it or not, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made the AFC championship game 3 times since our last NFC conference championship game! The jags played in the 1996, 1999 and 2017 AFC championship games! Lost all 3 but they made it.
  • The Tennessee Titans have also made it to the AFC championship game 3 times since we last did it. 1999, 2002, and 2017.
So whoever is named HC of the Cowboys will need lots of luck. Again, until JJ is gone, our hopes will be tied to blind squirrel-blocken clock luck. Because if by some miracle, Jerry once again hoists a Lombardi, it won’t be because he followed a great plan. And it that ever happens with Jerry Jones at the helm, Lady Luck will deserve the credit!

Sean Payton or Bill Belichick could be named coach. And yes some fans would complain about that also.
Anyway, one of them or some coach of their caliber could come in ere and take over, bring his own staff and be in charge of player personnel more than any other coach has been.

But without the right scheme for the players, as well, better players. Including drafting a QB high, to develop him, even if he sits for a year. It will be all for not.

Luck has nothing to do with it (well to a degree). Get the players. They wil be losing quite a few more in FA. And if they do not participate in that again, rely on 3 or 4 players from the draft. That just does not do it.
Create your own luck.

As I pointed out in my thread covering the math regarding Jerry the GM's failure, Jerry has achieved in failure a staggering 1.8% probability.

That is so low a percentage that there is no blind squirrel or broken clock. We cannot realistically hope for blind luck because it would have already happened by now.

I'm not being facetious when I state that there is a higher probability one of us on this forum chosen at random, and given 30 years, would have built a team that made at least one CCG. Even just raw coin flipping to make decisions should get you at least one title game appearance in that time span.

That simply isn't going to happen. It would have by now if it were realistic.

Luck is the residue of hard work. Jerry doesn't believe in work he doesn't like...but that's the "hard" part...so no luck is coming our way.

If you want to know how our "luck" is...Dak came to us in the 4th round...aren't we "lucky" to have Dak? LOL...no effort put into getting a QB...and this is what we get.

I won't comment, I don't want to COMPLAIN, maybe i'll wait for 34 years of no playoff success to begin my complain fest!!
Whoever is chastising you for complaining is a LAME who identifies with Jerry's feelings. Pathetic pawns don't even know what a message board is for. Why not just buy pom-poms and live outside The Star?

But, but, but you can't point out all the positives, trending upward signs and general satisfaction with the direction the team is going?
So is that a present, future or hindsight type of outlook?

The fandom bouncers at the door are checking id's
Be careful.

Complain all you want! That's what sports forums are for. All opinions should be welcome.

I find it interesting that a handful here complain more about fellow fans complaing than the acts of this FO which is causing failure and fan apathy.

To be clear, it's not merely the fans complaing as it's also the "ENTIRE Sports Media" that is also pointing out the missteps and mistakes by this FO
