Remember , Jethro from his days at Arkansas had the passion to be involved in football after his playing days like several of his classmates who went on to become coaches.
But he didn’t want to be held as directly accountable if he didn’t have the success on the field. In other words he didn’t want to be fired.
And he knew with his financial backing and ambitions had an opportunity unlike the other classmates to actually become an owner.
It’s why he early on in the 60’s when he was still in his 20’s attempted to buy the Chargers. But he couldn’t come up with enough financing on his own and his father wouldn’t back him. And he chose not to want any other partners who might hold him more accountable if didn’t have the success on the field.
So he went into the oil business . And the rest is history as he placed himself in position about 20 years later to buy another team all on his own.
The good news is his children and heirs haven’t expressed interest to carry out their father’s identical ambitions and passions of football celebrity status.
