Doesn't make it true, either. :)

I never said it did. ;)

Was just pointing out if you don't win you get criticized.

I meant the idea that a defense must be good if it goes to 3 straight championship games. In the early '80's we were actually lucky to get as far as we did with an average defense.

White, Dorsett and that offense was the reason.

In 1980 and 1981 our record was 12-4, 1982 6-3 (strike year) and 1983 12-4.

In the 1981 playoffs we record our third shutout in playoff history and took the eventual Super Bowl champions to the wire.

Yep, that's pretty good with an average defense or as one poster mentioned one that sucked.

Best way to propagate a thread is to take a shot at a Cowboy star of yesteryear...Brings out the fans with passion :D

Yep That's right that defense SUCKED...( maybe a little emotional , but the inner child in me is still pissed ) To let Wilbert Montgomery and Leroy Harris run all day long ,,,Yeah we sucked.....It wasnt one of our stellar Defense's and to constantly Blame DWhite for not winning the big one is idiotic. I'm fully aware of the perceptions and all that crap.. I know the QB gets blamed all the time.. But its not true. That Defense was not up to par.

White had to be more than pretty good. That's kinda the point.

1980
#9 Offense
#17 Defense

1981
#5 Offense
#20 Defense

1982
#5 Offense
#11 Defense

1983
#5 Offense
#17 Defense

I never said DW was at fault, but again, if you lose the media is going to criticize someone and who better than the QB of the Dallas Cowboys.

Same thing with Don Meredith, it was his fault we lose those games in the 1960's but the blame was put on him.

Same thing with Romo, he goes to Mexico and it's the cause.

The point I was making is that no matter how good he was we did not win and the media and some people will criticized him for that. To me the defense were not that bad.

I have NEVER criticized him for the loses. You win and lose as a team.

Thanks MR Howard. Our O was top 5 and top 10 for 1 season ...Good enough to get us to the championship but our D wasn't quality to let us Win ...Kinda like last year...

The worst part is that we throttled them at RFK only weeks earlier.

Cowboys sack Commanders, 24-10

12/6/1982

By GARY MYERS / The Dallas Morning News

WASHINGTON – Every year, it seems, there's one team in the NFC that manages to put together a magical season prohibiting the Cowboys from reaching their ultimate goal – the Super Bowl.

Three years ago, it was the Rams who knocked the Cowboys out of the playoffs. Two years ago, it was the Eagles, with Dick Vermeil hailed as the NFL's new genius. Last year, of course, was the self-acknowledged genius, Bill Walsh, and his 49ers who frustrated the Cowboys.

The early talk after four games of this strike-interrupted season was that the Washington Commanders, with this year's designated whiz kid, Joe Gibbs, was the team with the intangibles to stop the Cowboys from Pasadena on Jan. 30.

Well, on Sunday, the Cowboys served notice to the Commanders, and perhaps Green Bay and anybody else, that they are not fooling around this time. They thoroughly outplayed the Commanders before a delirious 54,633 at RFK Stadium, 24-10. It was the Cowboys' sixth straight victory over Washington and their 11th out of the last 14.
