This is all just draft fodder. First Scandrick and now Ball? Cmon, I really don't give a rats --- what I hear until draft day or the guy at least comes in for a visit if it's a FA.

It's probably for backup safety or in dime packages...I really think Sensy and Hamilin will be our starting safetys with Scandrick and Ball mixed into safety to shake things up.

Brown will definitely be churned. Watkins will have to play lights out in TC if we draft a safety.

Watkins is a broken neck waiting to happen.

he looked like he had put on quite a bit of weight last yr to me (compared to his rookie yr) pretty safe bet he's still getting bigger and stronger
How many biscuits is that?

you guys that are slamming this move are NOT following the NFL. The Safety position is transitioning to a COVER position...Ball's speed is also more suited for safety and has a rangy body type that should allow him to compete for the ball in the air as opposed to tight spaces.

This is exactly what Watkins was supposed to be, except you didn't have to change him. He seemed to be a perfect fit for what the safety role is becoming in the league.

Now he just appears to be a disappointment. You have to wonder, why doesn't he have a more defined role in the secondary by now?

I think it just sounds like they've got a handful of prelim ideas and that none of it is going to be set in stone until after the draft and they've got a good look at what they'll be taking to the schools and camp.

I think they're picking names out of a hat and what to do with them.

Prediction...once we Draft a Safety or two all this talk of moving Corners to safeties will be for naught. I still think they will try and get Scandrick, Jenkins, and Newman on the field at the same time though.

We have 5 CBs on the roster and like 8 safeties. And we are moving a CB to safety. And talking about drafting a safety.

Hmm...

Edit:

To be clear, that came from DC.com that I just looked at which indicates the following:

CB
Alan Ball
Michael Hawkins
Mike Jenkins
Terence Newman
Orlando Scandrick

S
Tra Battle
Courtney Brown
Jerome Carter
Keith Davis
Ken Hamlin
Gerald Sensabaugh
Pat Watkins

and he wouldnt be playing safety FT, I think it'd be more of a nickel safety type role.

yeah but his rookie year he weighed like 175

interesting to say the least

I love how we resisted moving Henry to safety at all costs, but now, we want to pu a bunch of lanky, 180 lb guys back there.

I think hamlin and Senssabaugh are the only ones that will be on the team going into the season from the safety position. Maybe tra battle.

I'm more worried about the fact he weights a buck fifty not that he hasn't played safety in the defense.
Ball is actually 6-1 186. He has the frame to add weight, but I'm still not sure why this is necessary.

This feels more like tweaking some of the packages to me.

The Scandrick idea seemed to be about getting your best players on the field together more.

This seems to be about the same. Alan Ball is likely a better option against the pass at safety than guys like C.Brown, P.Watkins, the other safeties. I thought Ball showed something last year, so it seems like he's going to get a chance to earn some more time.

According to Jerry, Scandrick will be at safety.

Evidence: The very last thing on the 105.3 interview yesterday, the last question put by Ben and Skin was about draft strategy. It was blah, blah, blah, our recent FA acquisitions allow us to go into the draft and pick the best player available without regard for need.

And then Jerry said (paraphrased):

"So can find some of those good players on the second day like we did last year, when we picked Choice and (pause) OUR SAFETY."

Jerry couldn't remember Scandrick's name so he just called him "our safety."

Move Alan Ball to safety???

Has he ever played safety before in our defense???

Don't matter. I'm glad they are doing this. Scandrick better at CB I would think. And I am thinking Ball won't be on the team anyway, unless he shows some improvement. He shows good signs, then bad. Or that's what I remember, could be better than I'm thinking. Same with Brown. So they will be drafting a S for competition.

Agree with you about Ball. Only way he sticks around is if we don't find his replacement in the draft.

Watkins and Brown are good bets to be "churned" IMO

we'll definitely draft a safety or two

I had high hopes for Watkins when we drafted him.

Tell me about it. His tackling is his downfall. The guy is going to end up dead if he keeps tackling the way he does. Parcells tried to warn him. I can't shake the image of JC trucking him over.....
