Sources say The Ticket's Bob Sturm and Dan McDowell, who have held court at the station from noon to 3 p.m. since 1999, are negotiating a move to The Fan.

Go or stay could be settled as early as Monday.

Once upon a time ESPN radio made overtures towards Sturm but he had no interest in moving without McDowell.

There is lots of money at stake. Don't expect anyone to talk on the record until this thing is settled.

If Bob could get rid of Dan the show would jump up to something classic.

I don't need a wannabe stand-up comedian mixed in with my sports.

Bob is genius. Dan is a snarky moron.

the fan hired gavin from 610 in Houston. He doesn't mess around. He made 610 the #1 station in Houston and probably will do the same for the fan.

So much shuffling in th DFW media nowadays, it's hard to know who is where anymore. ;)

Ugh.

This is just heartbreaking if it turns out true. I'm a longtime P1, but BaD Radio was my favorite Ticket show. I don't want to have to choose! :(

If they do, I hope they replaced the morning idiots on The Fan, those guys are horrible. Jasmine can stay, but the 2 guys must go.

I made a thread on this in Off Topic. Richie sort of hinted at this last week on his new website. (http://dfwsportatorium.com/)

If you haven't already, I'd recommend reading the 5 part story he has on there about Greggo's deceitful ways.

Terrible news. Competition is good but when it dilutes one quality product into two below average ones with high consumer opportunity cost, that sucks. Bob and Dan (and Donny, great addition they made there) are the best show on the station now.

Bob and Dan make about 300k each a yr so I'm guessing the Fan offered them 400-500k.

Wish BaDD radio would have moved.
Only show on the Ticket I listen to nowadays for more than a few minutes.

A shame really because the Ticket was excellent for so long.
They've simply devolved too heavily away from sports angles at all.

Losing BaDD radio would have at least been a shake up and perhaps caused a ratings shift that drew attention.

BaDD radio is the best show going IMHO.

Bob is perhaps the best sport writer the Dallas area has. The radio show is just alright.

Neither are on the show today and the hosts(Donovan and Rich Phillips) said they would be back tomorrow but didn't sound 100% sure. So take that for what it's worth.

it goes well beyond that. search kidd kraddick salary.

also worth noting you pull in probably 100k in advertising revenue and swag as a host of these major stations in a major city.
you think these guys are paying for car leases?
What was Russ Martin making when he was let go at the format change?

was making 7 figures. and did for a couple years after they fired him. -------------------------------

Yesterday Live 105.3 switched formats. It’s now mostly sports talk, and it’s called The Fan. With the switch, afternoon drive ratings juggernaut Russ Martin was let go. He was kind enough to answer a few questions via e-mail:

FrontBurner: Was yesterday’s format change a surprise to you? When did you learn of it?

Russ Martin: Surprised? Not really. Got an e-mail from a friend over the weekend that KLLI had registered The Fan website. They officially told me Monday afternoon.

FrontBurner: When is or was your contract up?

Russ Martin: They indicated they’d honor the remainder of my contract, which runs through April of 2011. So, no worries. Very odd, though, to be paid seven figures annually to do nothing. Gonna sit back, relax, and get me some of those Dr. Shoal’s jelly pads for your feet.

FrontBurner: What did station management tell you about their decision?

Russ Martin: They said nothing more than they were flipping to all sports talk and apologized — many times. I told them I didn’t perceive this as a personal attack and to make sure my money showed up every two weeks.

FrontBurner: I assume you can’t comment on any other station you might be in talks with. But would you ever consider doing mornings again?

Russ Martin: As far as other stations, I haven’t heard from anyone. My e-mail inbox exploded yesterday and had to use an auto responder. That way every e-mailer at least got something.
