It was an absolutely moronic signing and plenty of us said so at the time.
We all said so because we could have signed Henry, Aaron Jones or even Barkley. Outside of a Zeke we were left with no better option who would be a cheap signing.

There were like 20 other RB's that would've been better "insurance" than Zeke. Joe Mixon was CHEAP. He could've probably done more than Dowdell also. The FO just has nepotism for "their guys" and the nostalgia clouds their judgement. Zeke was done 3-4 years ago.
Mixion was traded the day free agency started. You’re saying Mixon was CHEAP?

“Two days after the trade, Mixon and the Texans agreed on a three-year contract extension worth $27.0 million, $13 million guaranteed, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.”

Mixion was traded the day free agency started. Do you call this CHEAP.

Oops. Got Ekeler and Mixon confused. I would've taken anyone a little more expensive and even a few less expensive than raggedy Zeke.

Zeke had just under 1000 total yards for NE last year. Based on what was left at RB he was likely our best option. This is what happens when you sit on your hands.

He’s washed but we can’t give Dowdle every single carry. He needs a breather for a play here and there. It wasn’t a stupid signing at the time we had nothing at RB after doing nothing in free agency. You’re living in the moment.
It was a stupid signing at the time because he was washed.

Yes, they needed a RB in FA. Elliott wasn't the answer. The Cowboys literally came out and said he was a guy they targeted, which was so stupid. Any sane person could see that but Jerry likes familiarity and that's how we end up with Elliott. When he and his son tried to argue Zeke had stuff left in the tank................ LOL.

Oh and Elliott he was cheap. Dirt cheap. Perfect signing for Jerry - he knew Elliott and he was cheap relative to other, better RBs.

Horrendous signing. It's not a hindsight thing. Many people, including myself, said it was a wasted signing when they announced it.

They obviously don’t think much of him. He’s the biggest waste of a roster spot we have.
Misused. Not a waste.

And how do you come to the conclusion they "obviously" don't think much of him? Almost 2 seasons now and not one single play designed for him yet. I really hope he goes to a OC who can figure out how to use him.

Poor Zeke as he faced defenses that didn't fear our passing game and zoned in on him 100% of the time.
Body can take so much punishment and yes he was sacrificed to carry the inept and dumb.
Yep....the FO/coaches got every bit of Zeke by the high carries (like CD targets now), nicked with the knee for two years.......FO/Coaches, that was inept and dumb.

Zeke 2024 cap hit: 2.0 mil +6.0 dead
Henry 2024 cap hit: 5.1 mil

But hey, the memories made along the way was worth it.
yeah we get it, doesn't have to be brought up all the time, hell I would be happy with Aaron Jones or Josh Jacobs too

good point, it seems after he was hurt on the pylon but they kept playing him, it has been downhill

The league robbed him of his career in 2017….
He was really good in 2018. Not quite rookie Zeke but he was a big part of why we went to the divisional round that year. 2017 had to be a difficult year for him with the suspension, then it getting appealed and he got to play then getting it upheld right when we were hitting our stride. We just beat KC and were one of the hotter teams. Once he went out, it killed us and we never recovered. Dallas wasn't as good record wise as 2016 but that 2017 team was rounding into form to be really dangerous down the stretch.

We could not have afforded Barkley. Henry could easily been here. Dixon was the best fit for us and he was cheap. Much better then Zeke now. Not even close.

Why he's still on the roster at this point is beyond ridiculous, nevermind resigning him during the last offseason, when Dallas cut him because he was a declining player two years ago......
Only Jerry could wrong a right like that.
