If the report is true, get ready for a 3-year nuclear NFL winter of a mediocre team led by a mediocre QB when it comes to the playoffs.

The source is likely Daks people and what he's saying should happen is Dak's proposal to the team.

That is just a bunch of BS. Four more years of Dak? I suppose they expect us to jump up and down and be happy about it.

the deal MIGHT say 4 years, but really what it might be is a series of 1 year deals with outs after each year.

Not happening thankfully, and if we go 1-3 out the gate just wait to see how ridiculous it gets

So, does today count as Week 1? Or do we have to wait until Sunday to laugh at another Bob “Dak will be signed by this day” Sturm wrong prediction?

I am not a Dak lover by any means. But sorry to say that you Dak haters just need to get over it. He isn't going anywhere, not because he's a great QB. But because he is good, he's a leader, he's already here, he's a boy scout and a poster boy for the team and the for NFL.
If you don't think all those things matter, well you're just wrong. Because they absolutely do.

He may, or may not, ever get over the playoff hump, but he is a very good regular season QB who can win a lot of games. Most teams would take that in a heart beat, just hoping he does make that leap. Because not having a good regular season QB gives you no shot at making the playoffs, let alone advancing in them.
Ask around to other teams fans and front offices who don't have a good QB if they would like to have Dak on their team.

A couple years ago I wouldnt see much issue with this post, but I'm not sure its entirely accurate in 2024.

Is he a leader? I wont argue against that too much. He does/says a lot of the right things, and a lot of his teammates show support for him in the media. I have some concerns in this department, but nothing major where I would say he is a poor leader.

Is he a boy scout? He's shown a different side to him this year. He's made headlines multiple times when he hasn't given the media friendly answer, including some odd quotes about his contract situation, and telling fans to get over it. No, he isn't exactly playing the evil villian, however he has had a bit of an edge to him, and hasn't been squeaky clean Dak we knew during his younger years.

Is he a poster boy for the team? I think it just depends on the demographics. Overall though his jersey sales dropped to 20th overall in the league and he has dropped to 3rd in popularity on his own team behind Parsons and Lamb. The poll on this board only has 20% of fans saying they want Dak to receive another contract. I would assume he is still extremely popular with certain segments of fans, including younger fans, but I think its fair to ask if he is still really the face of the Cowboys and if he is maximizing income for the team still. I see a good argument for both sides there.

Would most teams take him in a heartbeat? 1000% agree, he would have zero shortage of suitors if he were to hit free agency and would get top dollar in doing so.

Does not having a good QB give you no shot at the post season? Disagree here. SF has been making the playoffs with whoever at QB for years now. Tampa made it last year with a guy the rest of the league passed on. The Browns made it mostly through a combo of Thompson-Robinson and Joe Flacco. Pittsburgh made it with Kenny Pickett. The Bengals missed the playoffs and actually had a better record once Burrow missed time. If you have a quality roster you have a chance, this game is about more than just the quarterback play.

I remain pretty split on the Dak situation. On a reasonable deal I think the Cowboys should bring him back, but I also get the sense Jerry isnt going to cave because he has a team good enough to compete for a playoff spot if he can find average production out of the QB position in 2025.

Not much of a difference actually. Matt Ryan was 4-6 in the playoffs while Rayne Dakota is 2-5......I see no reason why Rayne can't get to 6 playoff losses too.

Good job on pointing out that comparison.
Even without the Super Bowl appearance

Is it happening today?

Mr Sturm?

Rambo?
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Thursday a source "with direct knowledge of the situation" said it is "looking like free agency at this point" for the quarterback who is entering the final year of his current contract.

Fowler also called the negotiations "confounding" and added that Dallas "will have to come around" on the "inevitability" that Prescott will be the league's highest-paid quarterback when he does sign his next deal.
