Bob Sturm: Vernon Butler May Be the Best DL Prospect In The Entire Deep Group

Impressed by his feet and change of direction abilities at that size.

Seems more like Mo Wilkerson.

Doesn't seem to fit the Marinelli interior lineman mold at all. It's tough to envision taking him after years of passing on talented DT prospects because they tipped the scales north of 305.

There's only so many players that can squeeze into the 1st round.
He really might there at 34

He looks strong and quick up getting up field. He has all the physical tools to be good. Looks smaller than listed weight but think it is because he moves so well for a guy his size. He does need to learn and fix some technique issues.

On a few of zone runs he lines up in 3 technique gets reached by guard then wins by going back side. In that situation he better make that play. In the NFL that guard doesn't turn he works up field picks up extra block.

Not exactly sure of scheme so I could be wrong but he didn't maintain the B gap in two of those runs. Love the play he makes show he has talent but he's gambling a bit.

Maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, but I see a touch of Aaron Donald in that kid.

Adds another strong candidate for a defensive tackle addition. Thornton is the steady piece at the #1 DT, but a rotational piece with talents to flex, is a nice thought.

Add him to the mix, and I would enjoy Marinelli forging a defensive line that works through an entire game.

See if that doesn't pad some stats for the offense.

Would anyone buy off on a Bosa/Spence and then Butler?

I don't think he will be available so I haven't even been talking about him. Even with Thornton signed he has to absolutely be high on the list if he actually is. If you can't get pressure on the edge, get really good at collapsing the pocket.

Dallas also needs to look at Butler's LaTech teammates, Kenneth Dixon and Jeff Driskel
