But..but Carp is gonna be a starter from day one.

And he might have been, had it not been for Ellis' transition to OLB.

The plan was to draft Carp for SOLB and possibly start, granted the experiment of moving Ellis. But Ellis took to it rather quickly, so Parcells moved Carp to ILB. Singleton then backed up Ellis.

Then when Ellis tore his achilles, Carpenter moved back to OLB...but he didn't have much 3-4 experience as a SOLB. He got playing time down the stretch, including the playoff game against Seattle.

79 catches for 1067 yards and 3 TDs in 3 years for the 7th overall pick?:banghead:

Witten did better than that this year alone.

OBTW, that's why the Cowboys DO NOT draft WRs in the first. And those of you who are projecting one in your "mocks", don't hold your breath.

If I remember correctly, the debate was over Manny Lawson or Bobby Carpenter.

Upset that we drafted Anthony Fasano?

Worried about Spencer not playing much his rookie season?

Wondering why Stanback can't get on the field for meaningless games?

It's not so bad - at least we didn't draft this guy #7 overall.

to be fair, the ball *was* spinning...

Jury is still out on Carpenter.

Fasano is of need, because we use 2 TE sets. And I think our offense is particularly explosive when we go to the 2 TE sets with Barber as the lone back.

Stanback was redshirted, in essence.

No team NEEDS a 2nd TE in the 2nd round, regardless of what set they run. I don't care if you run 4 TE sets. Especially considering the guy has caught a TOTAL of 28 passes over two years.

At least we didn't draft him in the first round though.

Can't fathom any disdain for Fasano...The dude has been pretty good, like his upside.

Stanback, come on...He's basically been a redshirt guy...Jury out on this one.

Carpenter...Well, that one hurts...Still :banghead:

what happened to the guy out of Florida that New England drafted with their 1st round pick a couple of years ago?

Carpenter is going to be just fine. Its just going to take awhile for him to find himself a starting role.

He reminds me of Vrabel from NE. He didnt start for the longest time now he is a monser.

i don't post nearly as often as i used to.. but i do know this: if cowboyszone.com had a Best of 2007 Awards, and it was like a people's choice thing, you would get my vote for Poster of the Year.. just beating out the other nominees, Hostile, Adam, WoodysGirl, and Crazy Cowboy..

Gratzi, padre. :) You ain't half-bad yourself.

This thread got awfully serious. I didn't intend for it to be a discussion of our draft picks - more a "Let's laugh like crazy at the Vikings and Troy Williamson for a minute" thread. Oh well, threads go where they will.

you can't deny the value of Fasano's 2nd-round worth, and if you knew the type of O we were planning to run, and it's potential w/ 2 good TEs, you wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the pick

the shame was that we haven't used the 2TE much

Guaranteed someone will suggest it... :bang2:

Look at how many other highly touted, fast WRs who couldn't catch made it big in the NFL with another team... well there was... or how about... no wait, there's this one guy who... ah crap, I can't think of any.
koren robinson just might do it
