As bad as the day was for us ...... that kid came to play.

I want him to start next year .....no matter what defense we play.

He was all over the place ...... and showed alot more speed than I thought he had.

They should have been starting him instead of Singleton the whole time. He looked very intense out there.

Well, of course they should have, but that's what Parcells does. He goes with the veteran if it's close. The young guy basically has to play the pants off the vet to even sniff the field. Or at least it seems that way. :D

big positive for me. I think he actually made some plays against walter jones. I like this kid, and his future.

i've been pretty adamant about the potential waste factor for carpenter and i won't try to deny it. he never saw the field, he was inactive, we had glaring holes elsewhere - all that was true.

but when he finally has gotten his chance to play, he's just brining it every time. when we played atlanta i made it a point to watch carpenter and he spied vick a lot and vick never got past him.

not many can say that.

i didn't watch much of the playoff game cause i was at a show/bday party and committing to sing in public in feb. in deep ellum - (damn alcohol) - but what i was able to see on the TV's at the show, he was one of the few bright spots.

i have a feeling we're going to see some interesting names come and go in the new few months leading up to the draft. but at this point i've removed my finger from the "waste" button over carpenter and now i just wanna see him play more. he's winning me over.

What's really scary about this is that he has already shown more than Bradie James has in all his time here as far as just being around the ball ALL THE TIME...and yet we gave James the extension. :(

I thought he was a good pick at the time and then started to doubt...but I knew he is a very intense player with great size and ability. He started to show that the other night. He has an exciting future. I don't think he'll ever be a big hitter, but it seems like he gets himself in good position and makes plays...albeit a lot of ankle tackles (but I'll take them lol)
A new defensive philosophy (whether its via new D coord or head coach) couldn't hurt either.

I bet he gets a shampoo or conditioner commercial now.

On a serious note.

I have to wonder how he will do when they move him back to ILB.

If Greg comes back healthy, and I read they just took him out of the cast, than they will move Bobby back to ILB.

If he, Greg, does not come back healthy, I hope Bobby can take over the spot at OLB.

Or we sign a certain FA from Baltimore. It's not that I don't like Bobby at LOLB (ok, I really don't) it's more that I don't like James at ILB.

Either way ... I think we win.

The kid looks like a playmaker.

I wish I could say the same for Burnett. He seems like a leader, but hasn't really made any noise on the field since the pre-season. Maybe we'll get lucky with him as well ...

I think we have some very good young talent at LB.

I can't figure out why we even drafted Burnett. He's obviously talented, but he's also obviously a lot smaller than Carpenter and James. (And of course Ware, but Ware is a rarity.) No matter what roster weights might say, Burnett looks like he's 230 at best -- and Parcells is always going to think that's too small to start in his 34.

So we spent a second rounder on a special teams player and nickel coverage linebacker? I don't get it.

Yeah, it's a head scratcher. Then again, he might just have been the BPA on our board at the time and back then we needed LBs -- lots of the them.

there's actually quite a few "I don't get it" picks being made lately by our team, save for the 2005 draft.... except I think (hope) that we'll be getting new looks on defense soon and so Burnett will be more in the mix (and Ware won't be covering WR's 20 yards down the field on 3rd downs) :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

Burnett is a headscratcher, but I kinda look at this as his rookie year. He spent so much time injured last year, it was hard to get a read on his abilities. And this year coming off an ACL injury, maybe they were managing his PT due to that. I don't know. But maybe he'll become a bigger factor next year.

And I liked how Carp came on as the season progressed. He took advantage of every opportunity he got on the field. Says alot considering he went from being inactive to starting.

Another things is that Carpenter has been thrown a lot in his rookie year having to learn ILB, OLB and DE assignments.

Yup gotta say I was pleased with some things I saw from BC too.

Thats been my contention all along.. I dont care what the scheme is, if a guys a player, you can tell (not about BC in particular but talking in general).. the scheme might just keep a guy from making more plays than he otherwise might but it doesnt keep them from making plays altogether.

Ware is obviously the prime example. Yeah the scheme is this or that but it doesnt keep him from wreaking havoc from time to time.

:hammer:

When he got on the field, he made plays. No scheme can take away a players ability, and nearly all of them at least get you in position to make plays. You may be a bad fit for a certain scheme, but aside from some terrible coaches (generally from college or bed-and-breakfasts) most NFL schemes are solid. Carpenter definitely was able to make plays from our "vanilla scheme", and with more confidence in him, I'm sure the coaching staff could use him in more ways.
