As bad as the day was for us ...... that kid came to play.

I want him to start next year .....no matter what defense we play.

He was all over the place ...... and showed alot more speed than I thought he had.

If I am not mistaken, the boy had his hands on the ball three times. twice for tips and once a near interception.

Aside from that, he was VERY active. Like the energizer bunny all night long.
He's gonna be a bona-fide monster one day soon.:)

Go Bobby!

Well, of course they should have, but that's what Parcells does. He goes with the veteran if it's close. The young guy basically has to play the pants off the vet to even sniff the field. Or at least it seems that way. :D
Or you have to really suck in the beginning of the year like Carpenter did. He sucked enough that he was labeled a bust by the flavor of the month guys. Now he's a find after one game. Wonder what he'll be called after his third start.

Carpenter didn't play at the beginning of the year. He was only labeled a bust, or a wasted pick, by those who decided to leg-hump Manny Lawson's early two-sack performance and boo-hoo because they hadn't seen Carpenter yet.

To be fair, there were Manny Lawson fans who didn't think Carpenter was a bust, and there were non-Lawson fans who did think he was a bust (or at least a waste).

He excited me. Made me glimpses of a GREAT team again...

No I am not declaring him great.... but he looks like he could be major piece to GREAT puzzle in future :D

They didn't have to be Manny Lawson fans to go nuts over his 2 sack performance (interestingly, he had to wait 12 games to get his next, and only, half-sack). But sure enough, he gets two and suddenly we're inundated with "We should have drafted..." threads. Carpenter was declared a bust, and sucked without ever getting to show the ledge-jumpers what he could do.

I love the idea that some people who bash Manny Lawson in his first year playing turn around and joke about people who bash Bobby Carpenter in his first year playing.

The irony is just hilarious.

Yeah. I bashed him. I said, clearly, that Lawson couldn't play, that he was a bust, that San Francisco should have traded up to pick Carp. I totally railed on him.

Where diD you see a bash? He stated that it took Lawson 12 games from his first sack to his next.

You lumped yourself in with the comment I just made. I didn't.

The bottom line is that the jury is still out on both of these players. To chest thump about being right about either pick at this point is just as ******** as calling either a bust.

If you haven't seen people bash Lawson for his performance this season you haven't been paying attention. There have been entire threads about it.

Ah....the innocence card. Hilarity.

The second part is correct, at least.

I knew you would jump to the conclusion that I was calling you out. That's the problem when you make broad statements like "people bash Carpenter because they leg-hump Manny Lawson" type posts.

I used a rhetorical device to prove a point. Get it?

I really didn't read or respond to those threads, they were crap. I did however, respond the the Carp is a bust threads that surfaced 2 games into the season.

Both notions are crap. Let's move on.

Bradie James sucks. Discuss.

Naturally, no one could have been more disappointed in not seeing Carp early on...but the considerations given were, in no particular order:

Learning the move to the inside, along with some DE
Having some early recognition problems
Ellis stepped up more than anyone could have expected

This was all good and well, I still never figured why I didn't see him on special teams, though I can't be certain whether he excelled at ST play at OSU, somehow I doubt it.

Seeing him play for so long, I felt comfortable enough to make this statement in a discussion on AJ Hawk and the OSU/Notre Dame game:

"AJ's a tough hombre, but you're all missing out on seeing Bobby Carpenter, who arguably would make a better NFL LB."

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45676&highlight=bobby+carpenter

Now this afforded me to allow a longer leash as far as to what the coaches may be doing with him at the time, but to be fair, I had seen him play nearly every week for quite awhile, while most didn't.

There are alot of times when someone doesn't see what they want to see, or feel the need to see, and will knee jerk into a full blown bust mode, as several threads this past season has suggested.

I'm hoping these examples of Romo and Carpenter can show things can get done beyond the ever seeing eye of the average fan...staving off senseless debate and hate...but I doubt it.

What did he play at OSU?

He played OLB & DE with his hand on the ground. Like I've tried to tell many of you all along, Carp is the real deal. The speed & anticipation he showed Sat. is something you can't teach. Whether you put him at OLB or ILB, he'll play it 100% lights out. He just had to get adjusted to some things in the NFL, but it looks like now he's ready to play with the big boys. Whoever is HC next year would be crazy not to start him somewhere.

he's not chest-thumping, just showing how ridiculous it is for some people to make a judgement on a rookie, his rookie year, much less a rookie year in which he's not playing, or wasn't playing

he's sticking it to all the chicken-littles who were gnashing their teeth earlier this year when Lawson had his 2-sack game, and Bobby was inactive, and rightfully so, passing judgement on a player, less than half a season into his NFL career, is ridiculous, esp. when he's not getting a chance to fluff his stuff
