The listing of job opening has a very specific procedure that was not followed. That is all that is needed for someone to file a suit against the school. Firing Petrino did not remove Arkansas' exposure 100%, but it did give the appearance that the school was trying to make things right. Perception matters.

Any lawsuit(s) didn't have to actually win. The school would have to spend money to fight them. That is a hassle. Cutting all ties with Petrino was a better option in fighting any potential lawsuits.

And we haven't even considered that his mistress could have potentially sued for sexual harassment. She could have claimed she was coerced into the sexual relationship with the promise of getting the job.

No offense but none of that is wholly accurate.

Arkansas has not only attorneys on staff but also an entire law school. They need not fret a law suit.

What you are describing is them panicking. The school has lost tons of revenue by having its major financial tool go into free fall. They were so worried about perception they didn't address the reality of what was coming. Petrine could win with lesser recruits because he is a dynamic play caller and offensive mind. Insanely hard to replace that.

A very good post, but this point really makes me cringe. I hated this hire and last season reinforced it. Arkansas can't win playing smash mouth Wisconsin style football against the likes of Alabama and LSU. They don't have the players. They have to be inventive on offense like Texas A&M is (and like Arkansas was) to be competitive.

That is what is painful. There were a lot of "firsts" for the Hogs this year, and like the Cowboys "firsts", none of them have been good.
I was shocked they didn't hire a guy with deep ties in Texas recruiting.
Will be interesting to watch.
Recruiting classes in the 30s is tough to win with in that SEC West.
