To be honest...That is exactly what I do when I am playing Madden. I have Roy in during my base 3-4 package, and that's it. Nickel, Dime, Quarter, its Watkins, Davis, and Hamlin.

Sorry Roy, If you are not part of the solution, you are a problem!

What version of madden so you have where you can have situational subs, cause going into depth chart on every passing situation seems a little tedious.

If people actually watched and dissected the game, Roy hardly played bad. The first TD to Burress is somehow Roy's fault when they were clearly playing man-to-man and Roy was covering his guy on the opposite side of the field. Unless Roy has a machine akin to Scott Bakula on Quantum Leap, no safety makes that play nor should they. The TD that was thrown over Roy to Burress was largely due to a bad defensive playcall by not having Reeves play Burress tight. Burress could have adjusted his route to a corner or fade route and scored on Reeves, but it would've been harder to execute. Instead, Burress ran to the middle of the endzone, between the zone and Manning made a good throw to Burress who happens to be an abnormally 6'5" tall.

From what I've charted so far the problems on defense were mostly due to confusion. The silver lining to that is that it's something that can be corrected with time. The bad part about that is you can't afford to keep botching assignments on defense.

YAKUZA
You can chart from now til the end of time. It doesn't change the fact that Roy has been bad for quite a while now. He wasn't this liability in coverage when he first came to Dallas. Personally, I think he's just too heavy.

He should've made the play on the Burress TD in the back of the end zone. His half jump or whatever attempt he made was pathetic.

Many of us actually did watch the game. And Roy's play was horrid.

Two of those TDs he was in position to break them up, it looked like he was trying to bait them into throwin the ball then he was going to pick it off. Doesnt he know he's not fast?

Brillinat idea to take him out on 3rd and long..........which means that the opposing team will target him on first and second down.

The bottom line is Roy was there to defend the inside and he just stood there instead of getting the proper depth when it was clear that Burress was going behind him. To say somehow Burress was going to stop, turn around and run a corner route all of the sudden is crazy, no way would Eli have that much time. Roy had inside coverage and got beat, period. Its not like that was the first or the second or even the 5th time he has been targeted and torched by opponents for big plays. It has been happening every single game since NO last year.

The only one who was confused on their assignments in the secondary was Roy. Henry is just too slow to stay any worth any WR darn.

Bingo,I've been a fan of #31.Real doubt began to creep in the second half of last season.Watching him get burned on that play sealed the deal for me.Should have been a non throw or a pic if the ball was thrown.Same ol' same ol'.

forget his coverage issues people...we all know he is weak in coverage...BUT the REAL PROBLEM is that he is NOT physical anymore...guys do not fear catching the ball in his vicinity...that is why we paid top dollar to retain him....he was like a shot blocker in basketball that may not have blocked every shot, but he change shots with his presence...guys used to drop passes or give up on plays because they did not want to be in the area of #31...what is wrong with him? Again, you guys out there close to the team need to start snooping around. I think his shoulder is chronically bad and he is protecting an injury...I will shut up about this if someone with ties to the organization can find out if this is true

There are different packages you can predefine for various looks (3-4, nickel, dime, etc). Once you've done that, you can cycle through them on the part where you select the defensive package, which is the screen before you select the actual play. So for a dime package, you'd hit the button to cycle through the custom dime packages before you actually select dime.

This is just disgusting to read. First when Newman had a tiny slump everyone was talking about how garbage he is and how we shouldve got Leftwhich. Now every Cowboy fan is on his jock HARD. Now Roy should be benched, he sucks, blah blah blah. Bottom line, if Roy Williams got hurt i guarantee everybody in here running their mouths would be crying for him to get healthy. This cat had a bad game, probrably the worst game of his career. SO WHAT? Everybody is allowed a game like this. I know some are gonna say "its not just this game he always sucks in coverage". Well he may have gotten beat in the past but so does every other safety in the league. Just so happens he got pretty embarassed last night. I say all of this to ask one question.

Why is everybody jumping on Roys neck after Week 1?

I guess Saints fans think Reggie Bush still sucks at running the ball. NOT!

Its WEEK 1!

I guarantee you Roy will not play anywhere near as bad as he did last Sunday. Its a reason he has gone to 4 straight pro bowls. Shouldve been 5. AND WILL BE 6 BY THE END OF THIS YEAR.

Bench Roy?????????? Just ridiculous. This thread just proves once again that Cowboy fans either love Roy Williams or they love to hate him.

calm down...not all of us HATE HIM...but my gosh, Shockey catches the ball and Roy waits to be attacked by Shockey, then gets trucked...Roy seems like a confused young man...the organziation accepts his liabilty in coverage because they think that will be offset by physical play. This is why they paid top dollar to retain him. He does not have to prove he can cover like Champ Bailey to please me...but he does have to TRY to knock someone the f** out every chance he gets.

The Giants have OWNED Roy the last few years! Last night was not a revelation they have been successfully targeting him for 2 1/2 years now.

I have a PS3 and play the new PS2 version. (the option to make those kinds of substitutions is not available in the PS3 version)

Maybe the real version of the Cowboys should consider this substitution as well?

Couldn't hurt!!!

Honestly. I think he was trying not to get beat by a juke by Shockey. Shock is a very good athlete and if he got by Roy on that play it was off to the races. Its not like when Marion Barber had that run on the sideline with nowhere to go and he trucked Corey Webster. Now if Roy was in that situation with Shockey and got trucked then i would never hype Roy up again. But that didnt happen. I will say Roy pisses me off giving Shockey that much cusion. But his tackle didnt really bother me it was the coverage. I taped the game and watched it again. Roy was trying to knock heads off. Maybe you should watch it again because the way he was throwin his body around i highly doubt hes protecting a shoulder injury. But anyway Dolphins are DEAD. Basically. And watch on Sunday all over this thread..........

"ROYYYYYYYYYYYYY" "Roy is a beast".yea yea

If he does step it up and punish the Dolphins I wont be the least bit impressed. Good players step it up in big games not vs crap opponents.

The real reason for the 'hate' on Roy Williams is because everybody knows he is a beast. It is disappointing to see such talent suffer for some odd reason that I can't really figure out and it is more venting than actual hate.

If this was some bum, it would be a different story. But expectations are there for Roy Williams and deservedly so. He has all the talent in the world to dominate a game.

It's amazing. He is the only player I know who consistently makes bad plays yet it's always the fault of something the uneducated fan or reporter doesn't see or understand. I realize that can happen and does happen to players all the time, but with Roy it seems like it's always the case. I wish it were true because I really like him and want him to be a great player.

For some, I suspect, it's like learning that Santa Claus is not real.

I loved the pick, thought he had a promising rookie campaign, but am not blind to the fact that he has become a fairly mediocre player whose performance is not commensurate with his salary. It makes me wonder if it wasn't Woody that was making Roy look good early on.

In any event, I wouldn't hesitate to improve both safety positions in the draft or free agency this off season.

Boy, that annual refrain is becoming tiresome, isn't it?
