True, but it's football only and when you're in Idaho, you're going to do a lot of travelling anyway.

I'm still hoping that Hawaii gets an invite to the Big East, ACC or the SEC.

Didn't read your article, but there was a follow-up article in the Chron that said the Big East is trying to get 12 football teams, so they can divide into two divisions and have a championship.

UH would be one of their all sports schools.

Wow, Hawaii's travel sched is brutal enough just traveling to the West Coast and Intermountain West.

I was surprised to hear Chris Petersen say he would be in support of BSU moving to the Big East. I think its another dead end, ala the MWC.

Yea they wouldnt travel any farther than usual.

The addition of Boise, a perennial top 10 football program now, would help the Big East during the next evaluation period for an automatic BCS bid when the current deal expires in 2013 (there is a two-year grace period that will cover the league through the 2015 season).
The benefit to Boise is that the Broncos would be in a league with an automatic BCS bid for the first time. Since the school is being added for football only, the travel is not viewed as a factor.
Navy and Air Force would bring a different asset to the next BCS evaluation process: The Federal government, which is not likely to look kindly upon an organization that excludes two of the three football-playing academies from the lucrative BCS.

I guess that would make the Big East juuuust good enough to matter


East: Rutgers, Connecticut, West Virginia, Central Florida, South Florida and Navy.
West: Boise State, Air Force, Houston, SMU, Louisville and Cincinnati.

The Houston Chronicle reported Monday night that Houston had been extended an invitation. However, league sources said no official invitations have been extended to any teams. The Big East also released a statement Saturday that no invitations have been extended.

Tbh, I don't want UH to go to the Big 12. I know alot of folks at UH wants to be in the Big 12. It's a more high profile conference, but IMO, UH would become one of their bottom feeders where at least in the Big East, they can make some noise consistently. I want them to become a dominant player...not roadkill to the UTs and the OKs.

Basketball-wise, the Big East would be a better conference, as well.

Hey... don't get offended. I have a lot of friends that played for UH as one of our former coaches was on Bill Yeoman's staff. Almost EVERYONE of merit from The Great Lufkin High School went to Cougar High back in the day... and everyone called them Cougar High or Lufkin South where I was from...

It's a HUGE TV market... that's why they are in play... and I think moving to a high profile market could stop the influx of schools like A&M and LSU coming in and stealing local talent...

Well I explained myself, so get over it...

I agree they need a higher profile conference, but as BrAdPaiNt pointed out, the Big East is likely going out of the football business before long... losing Pitt and the 'cuse was a big blow for them with WVU likely to follow...

It will still be an effective hoops conference, but little else among the major sports...

Here is what I have been hearing.

WVU could be going to the SEC. It could wind up being Missouri, WV and a team from the ACC (FSU or VT). Now this is what I heard for a good amount of time but there are some things that are changing and it could be the following...

WVU, UL and possibly Cincy to the Big XII

Now again this does not mean this year, could be next year.

Have also heard that UCONN and Rutgers are in play possibly the ACC and Rutgets possibly the Big10

So there is a possibility of 5 teams in the big east leaving along with Pitt and Syracuse which would make it 7.

If some of this happens I kind of feel bad for the teams the Big East are trying to get to come in because I think they are being fooled to a degree. I think some of these big east teams that might leave or just waiting to try and help the big east get these other teams in so they don't lose the AQC/BCS status. Because as it stands if the big east falls below 6 football teams they lose conference status for the football side of things.

If they do leave, this year or next, I think you will find that for the most part it will not be much better than the proposed Conf USA/MW conference depending on if Boise State and the service academies stay or leave...they are waiting to see how some of this pans out.
