We didn't just spend a draft upgrading our ST unit to start cutting contributing position players who are among the 2-3 best STers on our roster. Hurd's going to stay. Stanback could be in trouble.

Actually, that's exactly what we did. Drafting guys who can play STs gives us the flexibility to cut bottom of the roster type guys, like Hurd, and keeping someone with more potential on the roster. Hurd is a decent ST player, but that doesn't mean that his long term value to the team is higher than Stanback's.

Unless Stanback is going to become a starter, it does.
I'm a fan of Stanback's, but a 4th WR who isn't as good a receiver as Hurd and who can't play ST has to show something more than potential at some point. Hurd's a pretty dang good player for a 4th WR, and he's a really good special teamer. I think it's really unlikely that we cut him this season.
