Sorry to see Bones Fassel head out of town to the Titans but I understand. With no head coach in place and many of the jobs quickly getting filled, it would be difficult for him to stick around here.

As ST coach, Bones did several good things here in Big D:
  • Brought in and developed super return specialist Kevantae Turpin.
  • Discovered and developed K Brandon Aubrey.
  • Brought in excellent punter Bryan Anger in 2021.
Fassel greatly improved the Cowboys STs when he arrived in Dallas with Big Mac in 2020. In 2019, Dallas finished last in the NFL in kick return average and 31st in both net and gross punting average. Bones brought improvement with the Cowboys by 2021, ranking 5th in the NFL in kickoff return average, topped the league in net punting average and finished fourth in gross punting average. Those stats were almost always top ten in the 5 years Bones Fassel was here.

Sorry to see him go. All the best in Tennessee.

He did do a lot of good. I only wished he'd backed off the fake punt plays and his punt blockers didn't run into the damn kicker so often.

... Why did they call him Bones? because he was skinny?

It's why we can't keep nice things.
Really liked his special teams development.

Sorry to see him go but the blocks in the back penalties was something that never got corrected. Yea, I liked Bones and sad to see him go but wish him the best at the Titans.

Ehh..he did some weird stuff too. Fake punt calls at bad times, and maybe that's more on McCarthy.

He also had Sam Williams on kickoff return which was strange.

But the really dumb thing was him playing Jalen Tolbert at Jammer (the CB in front of the gunner). They immediately targeted Tolbert for an easy conversion. Next week? Tolbert is still there. What did that team do? Target Jalen Tolbert for an easy conversion.

Bones was overrated.

I think this falls mostly on our bone headed players and less on Bones

You're probably right. I question how he as well as all of our coaches handled mental mistakes though. We screwed up back to back weeks on punt blocks vs Washington and Cincinnati. The Bengals game was plain stupid and Bones said "he made a play on the ball." I don't expect a public roasting of our players but his answer left a lot to he desired. I realize I'm reading into it, but it never felt like he had a disciplined unit.

Like I said though, he did a lot of good. I dont want to trash the job he did here by any means.

Guys have tried to spice up ST, as if to keep changing the sport.

The best solution is to make sure ST is not called for penalities. Keep it simple, execute it perfectly, get off the field.

Some coaches cant fathom this.

This is why I say Jerry Dumbo GM Jones. Jerry made Wade take Garrett, Parcells take Zimmer, and McCarthy take Quinn. So why wouldn't any NFL HC not take Bones Fassell as ST coach. He is one of the best in the NFL and literally on the par with Avezzano who stayed in Dallas from 1990-2002 until he was not kept by Parcells.

Oh here we go. Now Fassel was a great coach because we just lost him.

Let me guess, and Brian Schottenheimer sucks, right?

Pffffftttt.

I wonder what his success rate was for fake punts and the opponents percentage as well. I can't remember one that was successful for the Cowboys. But can remember multiple ones for the opponents

I bet that was hard for you, since Jerry hired him. Good for you.
