*Barring another 40 point blow out loss to the Eagles*

Think about it:

What would our chances be next year with a new head coach/system? Do you think we would even be competitive? IMHO it would set us back at least 2 years from our current level. Jerry wants us to have a shot at playing a home Superbowl next year more than anything else; can't see him decreasing the chances of that happening. The most logical progression would be the ascension of Garrett but then you'd have a new DC; again setting back the defense next year while they learn a new system.

FACE IT: Wade Phillips will be the Head Coach next year like it or not. He has our defense playing at a level not scene since the 90s and Garrett, while getting the experience he needs to become our next HC, is going to have our offense playing at a high level again next year.

Now quit all the hand-wringing, bellyaching and lusting after all the retreads and appreciate what we have....a coaching staff that has us competitive for a deep run this year.

:star:

I think Wade will seal his return with a Dallas win this Sunday against the eagles.
Jerry knows that keeping Wade one more year will give JG one more year to prepare for the HC position. It will also be the best shot Dallas has to make it to the superbowl at home with a few off-season acquisitions (ie offensive line, safety).

I think he's back even with a loss. *as long as we're competitive*

That's pretty much what I think. Wades option will be picked up and there will be cupcake references for another season.

I don't mind at all, I think this team is in great shape and can very well do something great this post season and it won't be 'despite' Wade.

I believe strongly Jerry Jones is going to use this Sunday's game as a huge factor in his decisions.

A win Sunday, division title and a home playoff game for Phillips secures his job for at least the one option year on his contract. I honestly feel he is salivating over a home playoff game more than he is at just making a Super Bowl run. He wants the chance to do both. Even a home playoff loss, while disappointing, would not sting as much as blowing the opportunity to host one. So, I have no doubt he is asking for all the chips to be pushed to the table right now.

He has made it very clear that he does not want to go through a coaching change. He's stated some reasons (continuity etc.) but he also might not want to have to pay top dollar for a new head coach and staff with a potential lockout coming. He used his fiscal sense to retain Phillips when he by all reasoning should have been fired. There is no reason why he would not use the same piece of logic in retaining him.

We'll see how it goes. If we go far in the playoffs, sure bring him back.

If things don't go so well...well, my current state of "belief" won't even allow me to contemplate that idea.

most won't but I like the idea of keeping a bit of continuity

I would love nothing more than for Wade to return but I still think this team has to get over the hump for that to happen. As excited as everyone is right now I still think this team under Wade has to do something with this oppertunity getting to the playoffs even at home is not going to be enough.

Given Jerry Jones' penchant for putting a smiley face on nearly everything, I can see him being satisfied with a home appearance in the playoffs. He would be disappointed in another one and done, but I do not think he would be angry enough to upset the arrangement he has with Phillips that he obviously enjoys right now.

He was beside himself with just getting back to the postseason this past week. Imagine if he got a division title and a home game for 110,000 fans (don't forget the party passes too -wink-)? He will be in orbit if we win Sunday and I don't think even crashing and burning in the playoffs would bring him back down to the depths he would need to be at to make a drastic change. The ending to last season was a complete embarassment and he still rationalized then.

Yea. I am starting to think that is not such a bad idea myself. I also think it is a good idea to have Jason Garrett be the O.C. for another year and then he can become a H.C. in another year or two.

I for one have not been down on Wade.
But aside from the obvious defensive improvement, think of how much better the Cowboys could be without the brain farts like penalties in the redzone etc. I would not want to lose Wade as DC (although I'm sure Dallas does if he isn't HC) but I am curious how much better or efficient the team could be. Of course, they could be worse too. :laugh2:

The d is too good for Jerry to let him go. It won't happen, barring two meltdowns in a row to finish the season.

I can't see how he isn't back next season. He has this team playing well and another double digit winning season. Playoff bound.

Now, there maybe some "other" coaching changes in the works, and, I think that would only benefit Wade.

Commence slitting of wrists...

Although I am pleasantly surprised at most of the posts in this thread. :)

As long as we maintain a competitive level of play without getting blown out then yeah Jerry keeps the continuity thing going...

I'm expecting us to get to the Championship game this season...

I heard on another site there might not be a season in 2011 due to a lockout or something. Teams will prepare for that. Coaches get paid even if there is some sort of lockout. Therefore, Wade will be back next year. Jerry will exercise his option to pick up Wade for one more year, 2010.

If there is a lockout for 2011, Jerry won't have to pay a head coach and save himself some money.

Anyway, Wade earned it. He is a good coach. Drafts have been good. Players have been improving(Jenkins, Spencer, Bobby, DL, etc).

What other changes?

Continuity should apply to everyone, not just the head coach. Unless the staff is raided or perhaps Garrett gets a head coaching offer elsewhere, if Phillips is retained, everyone else should be. They too were contributors to the team that's playing well and had another double digit win total.

Agree with all of this, and have pretty much resigned myself to another year of Wade.

Meh.
