JJ is powerless to stop these guys from leaving if its a clear promotion.

A mega distraction going into playoffs. And Romo is in Mexico with Jessica Simpson. Wade and JJ need to reel this in fast.

I'm sooooooo jealous:cool:

I don't think Jerry can stop any coach from leaving for an advancement...it's not just for being a head coach. If you are the secondary coach and have a chance to become a coordinator, you don't need anyone's permission.

I don't get all the wringing of hands over these guys. Except for Garrett, every coach here is a holdover coach from Parcells days, from days when we all thought coaching was subpar. When I see Newman and both safeties going to the pro bowl and Henry having one of his best seasons with Dallas and Reeves having some good games as the 3rd corner, I personally have to wonder about the coaching of the secondary that seems to be our achilles heel. Other teams have secondaries with no one going to the pro bowl and yet they perform better.

Any coach can be replaced, and we might even be better for it. Wade's been around for a long time, and he seems like a good guy to work for. Good coaches should see Dallas as a place that is winning, has good players, a loyal owner who will spend money, and a great opportunity to advance their careers under a head coach who due to his age isn't going to be around forever.

I'd hate to see Garrett leave this offseason, but even if he does, we'll still be fine next year...as for all the position coaches, I look at it as good for them and a chance for us to possibly improve with some new blood.

All valid points,,, my own disappointment comes from the seeming betrayal by Parcells. Jerry paid him big money to put a structure in place and fill up the pantry and it doesn't seem right for him to raid it immediately after leaving.

That said, Phillips and Garrett are more than capable to keep the defense and offense in order and Ireland was just 1 of 3 voices within the scouting departments,,, so all should be okay provided Jerry can keep Garrett in the fold.

The way it looks right now Dallas could be losing several members of the coaching staff... The price you pay when doing business with a team the previous year.

I've got it.

Let's demote Brian Stewart back to secondary coach (what he was in SD), and let Wade be Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator.

;)

I gotta hand it to you Nors, no only are you wrong, but you are wrong loudly.

I say again. an assistant coach can not be blocked from getting a head coach job, but that is where it ends. JJ can absolutely block ANY assistant from taking ANY job other than head coach

Yes our Qb is taking his day off whooooooo I am scared, hold me!

Read this quote from Jerry Jones and quit spreading misinformation.

Would you let Sporano take coaches with him?

No, the only time I’m required to let someone interview is a head coach opportunity. I’ve often agreed not to let someone interview for a coordinator job. If there is a contract, they’re not allowed to take the job unless it’s for a HC position.

Yes, I guess Nors is a little behind.

In this case, though, I thought Bowles' contract was up after this season. So he might be available, but not because Jerry has to let him go for a promotion.

It doesnt work like that Nors.

There are only 2 categories of coaches, assistant coaches and head coaches. Teams were making up imaginary titles, like head of quality assurance and assitant to head coach, so it looks like a promotion but it really isnt. That is why the 2 category rule was put in place.

A team cannot block an assistant coach leaving to become a head coach (like Sporano going from o-line to HC in Miami). However, an assistant coach cannot leave for another assistant coach position, thus Bowles cannot move from seconday coach to defensive coordinator without Dallas releasing him from his contract.

If Bowles contract is up, then he is free to go anywhere he wants and this is all a moot point. But if he still has 1 year left, the Dolphins cannot even talk to him without Dallas's permission.

Bowles in line for extension: Secondary coach Todd Bowles was in line to become the defensive coordinator until the Cowboys hired Brian Stewart on Thursday.

However, that doesn't mean that Dallas doesn't hold Bowles in high regard.

Coach Wade Phillips said he wouldn't be opposed to a contract extension for Bowles, who is in the last year of his deal.
"I love being here and I love working for coach Phillips," Bowles said. "I've expressed that to him also and it's just a matter of working everything out. It will take care of itself."

either way Bowles is a free agent and subject to a Parcells hire.

Try not to climax as you think of ways things could undermine the Cowboys.

Damn Patriots bye week. Maybe the Celtics are playing tonight.

I hear you, but Miami is now paying him to do a job...when he was bringing in guys he knew as coaches and as players, I'm sure the Jets and others felt the same way. I think any coach or gm in the league would try to get the best guys possible and would feel no loyalty to a previous owner.

Cowboys DBs coach Todd Bowles is a "strong candidate" to be the Dolphins' next defensive coordinator, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Bowles worked for Bill Parcells in Dallas and would make a lot of sense if Tony Sparano is named coach. Sparano will interview for the job Saturday.
Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

No big deal, Bowles was the one keeping Roy from playing up to his potential... with a new coach, Roy can once again be the beast we knew and loved...

Replacing the Denver Cowboys of the late 70's and early 80's.

Dan Reeves, HC
Charlie Waters, DB Coach

Aaron Kyle, CB
Butch Johnson, WR
Tony Dorsett, RB

Seems like there was a couple more too.

Face it, everybody wants to be us... it's an officially recognized disease by the AMA, called Dan Snyder Syndrome...
