Where in the Chicago area do you live? I'm moving out of my parents house soon and I want a dog and most places have a restriction on the breed i want (pit bulls)

I assume you're keeping their ears un-clipped?

No, they clip ears around 12 weeks. It's painful for the pups. The tails are done when they are a day or two old. It's much less painful, but honestly it broke my heart doing that.

You should leave the ears unclipped. They look so much cuter with floppy ears.

And there really is no reason to clip them. I can understand tail docking, but ear clipping serves no purpose beyond the aesthetic and I think it makes them look mean.

I agree. I prefer the natural floppy ears.

This thread brings back good memories. My parents use to raise boxer puppies when I was growing up.

I'm sorry, I wrote no when I should have written yes. Yes I'm leaving thier ears unclipped. It's too painful for them, to clip them. Both mom's and dad have unclipped ears.

We have always had Miniature Schnauzers, .. and we leave the ears floppy too.

I am raising/training an 8 month old Min Schnauzer puppy right now.

edit: BTW, those puppies are awesome!

I guess they crate them, I've been told they take very good care of them. They send them by plane. From what I understand, you pick them up at the airport.

Yeah they crate them and fly them in with the cargo.

I got my staffy from South Carolina flown to NY, just picked him up at the cargo area of the airport.

I have heard some stories about people doing bad things to dogs that travel.

Knowing that, I would have a hard time shipping a puppy.

I drove around 12-13 hours in one day to pick up my puppy so I wouldn't have to ship, .. but that's just me.

Probably rare, but I wasn't comfortable taking a chance.

I miss my pup :(

This brings back some ****ty memories man.

I had a Rottweiler for 6 years. His name was Rocky. We left it out loose in the yard most of the time, and at night. One night, a homeless man reached into our yard and tried to dig into the garbage. Rocky attacked and basically ripped off half the guys arm.

Needless to say we were brought to court and the City had ordered it to be put down. My parents took it and did it one day when I was in school. When I came home and realized it, it was and will forever be one of the saddest moments of my life. I miss him so much. For that reason I will never, ever consider buying a dog again.

**** the city.

That is such a shame, not only about your dog, but that you won't get another one.

I am sure there is a dog out there somewhere that needs a good "dog-loving" owner like yourself.
