Is this a stain?

If so, no wonder why the kid stuck something on it. He was just trying to help others out!

Hmmmm... not sure if this was so much of a tragedy. Not like this thing is the Mona Lisa.

This, of course, begs several questions.

How could you tell if there was gum on this?

Was the kid simply making an artistic expression of his own?

And, most importantly:

Who would pay $1.5 mil for this uninspired mish-mash?

Christ almighty... is that really what it looks like?

Well hell, all of you who have been calling the kid a punk have gotten it all wrong. What we have here is a bonafide art critic.

You think a painting like that deserves to be sold for $1.5 million? As far as I'm concerned, sticking a wad of chewing gum was done only because he couldn't pull down his trousers and let the museum know what he really felt about this "art."

The amazing thing is that in today's world the kid can put the piece of gum on ebay and come up with the money to buy the painting.

Exactly!!! :lmao:  :laugh2:

I guess at 12 one would expect the kid to know better, not sure I did at 12, but why would the museum allow children that close of access to something that expensive ?

What if someone sneezed on the painting ?

This is partly the museums fault for not protecting it better. JMO

The last museum exhibit I visited didn't have their paintings well guarded either. You could go right up and touch them. I guess the museum is partly responsible and how about the school. Don't they give some basic guidelines for the kids before the field trip begins or they enter the museum. Kids aren't supposed to be chewing gum during school, either.

Kids do all kinds of stupid things like that, they have poor impulse control. i agree that the museum should have protected the paintings better. still the kid should be disciplined, but if a bunch of 12 year olds were coming over to my house i would immediately think about what i care about that could get damaged and take measures. Its too hard to oversee a large group of kids, and there's always the few that have that innate ability to know just when to slip away undetected and cause trouble.

Proverb 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Proverb 22:15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Proverb 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

Proverb 23:14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

Proverb 29:15 Thy rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

I'll disagree slightly with proverbs 22:15......innocence is bound up in the heart of a child, until the child learns behavior from others (usually parents and siblings).

Very Young Children are often chastised for doing things purely out of curioisity with absolutely no malicious intent, but the parents flip out cause they place too high a value on material things or they are too stringent in imposing their own rule over the child.

In the end, children really learn and incorporate so much more from observing the parents behavior, then from hearing the parents words.

Parents should pick and choose their battles with their kids. Dont get too worried everytime they do something illadvised, every child is going to test the boundaries now and then, but set an example by living your life a certain way and their subconscious mind will absorb the blue print you have created, and they will grow up to be just like you in so many ways.

They may deviate for a few years to go and "find themself" but what is stored in the subconscious is so strong it has a way of calling them back to that pattern of behavior as they mature.

Some parents complain that their children have chosen completely different lifestyles than they wanted for them, but look closely and you will see a lot of the same personality traits.
