Cleveland has a decent offense. Faced with the threat of Dallas pressure, the Browns played it more conservative so as to protect their QB. The Browns won the battle (protected their QB), but lost the war (scored only 10 points).

If the defense can hold the opposition to 10 points a game, I don't care about the sack count.

Er, what? Campo's just a DB coach... He has nothing to do with our philosophy on defense anymore.

So you don't think the post is about comparing Wade D as HC to Campo's D when he was HC?

DMN has an article up tonight that said the Browns kept 6 and sometimes even 7 guys in to block our people, specifically Ware.

Also, consider that they only threw the ball 24 times and when they didn't double or chip Ware he managed to get a sack and cause a fumble.:)

Our pass rush is inconsistent though. For every sack we get, there are 2 or 3times where there is very little push.

Despite the sack total last year, I also didn't think the pass rush was that great last year. I could be wrong, but the impression I got of last year was that it was feast or famine...we'd either sack the quarterback or he'd have all day to throw.

Do they keep official stats of quarterback pressures? I'd be curious where we ranked last year in those terms. You can have a great pass rush without getting sacks if you are constantly knocking the quarterback down and forcing him to throw early or on the run.

If one watches the Patriots game from last year, prior to the half, the defense just started punishing Brady with a pass-rush. Bellichek then dropped back more men in protection, and Wes started getting match-ups against Greg Ellis. After the first-half of the Green Bay game, it seemed as if Dallas just toned down their defensive packages and blitzed very little.

Maybe the coaching staff lost faith in the team's ability to cover, especially because of players like Akin and Reeves...

There is nothing wrong with the Cowboys pass rush, last week we may not have gotten any sacks but the defense did some things to take away some of the Browns strenght. Ellis was not sent on the rush with Ware many times as he helped slow Winslow down. In the meantime Dallas was able to get the needed pressure on Anderson so he could not just sit in the pocket with a lot of time.

Pretty much what happened. Im watching the Browns game and im looking at the defensive positive and negative plays in slow mo. We really got to start mixing coverages because we played alot of zone. And the WR are finding HUGE holes in the Zone. But that also is to the fact that we aren't getting pressure at times because the WR has time to find the hole in the zone. When we were getting pressure is was mainly from the middle. Every time Zach and Bradie blitzed they got pressure on Anderson. Ratliff is also was getting pressure up the middle at times. Tank is commanding alot of double teams. I hope wade looks at the film and disguises the coverages more and also playing mixed coverages man and zone at the same time. I don't know if the guys on the field realize this but our safeties sometimes were letting WRs get behind them while they were playing zone. There could have been 6 or 7 big plays down the field but Anderson was taking 3 step drops trying to neutralize the pressure of our front 7

I'm sure I missed something there.:

Back to the OP... I don't know where the perception that we had a mediocre pass rush came from, either. But I've heard it repeated several times. How long does it take these writers to google last year's NFL stats?

I think we will do just fine. It's week one, and I have a feeling the defense is starting to mesh a little. Plus, we have a division rival this week; so I think a firecracker is lit in there ***. Nothing feels better then sacking McFlabb.
