I certainly wouldn't be upset if we took him at 18.

That's right. That's why Mike Wallace (deep threat #1) is on their radar.

Christian Ponder is being discredited rightfully so or not and they need to surround him with aerial weapons to support their 1st round investment in him.

They need 2, not just 1 WR.

So they get one of the top tier #1 WR in this FA, which reported they are looking to do. Then they can pick up Austin if he falls in the draft with their 23 or 25 pick in the 1st round to fulfill that void of Harvin being gone.

That give's Ponder the best RB in the league behind a good o-line. A viable TE in Rudolph and a viable #1 and #2 WR, where the #2 fills all those flexible routes underneath and out of the backfield Harvin once again accounted for.

Remember, Harvin was special teams as well. Tavon does everything Harvin does a bit faster, a bit but smaller.

The Vikes can then add a defensive player with their 2nd 1st rounder.

He will not go past pick 25 whether they score a #1 WR or not. He will not fall out of the 1st and may not fall past pick 20.
Wallace and Tavon could possibly be a good tandem.

Of course, the odds are slim (<10%?) they could get both. It sounds like Miami is going hard for Wallace.

Really the odds of even getting Austin are maybe 50% at pick 25. But you could see why he'd possibly (always say possibly when regarding an unproven NFL player) be a very good fit.

He's an exciting talent.

But it's downright scary that so many of you guys would take him at 18..over Oline or dline.
One more shiny toy does not alleviate our dire need for help on both LOS'.
We would be doomed to repeat our recent results....imo

I agree with you about our needs on the LOS. Great football teams are built from the inside out.

But I think Tavon Austin is such a playmaker and a difference maker that if he is there at 18, he is too talented to pass up.

No problem at all. That's what forums are for.
I think we're all looking forward to seeing what this kid can do.

Yup, Harvin is 5',11" 185 lbs. Austin 2" shorter and 10 lbs lighter. Younger too and will grow with an NFL weight room.

Austin's skill set and talent level is still Percy Harvin 2.0.

Agreed. Austin's ceiling is Harvin or even Darren Sproles. Which is not bad at all. Both are rare talents. Tavon Austin will get stronger but not likley bigger. But he does lack Percy Harvin's baggage.

Austin brings no migraines, on or off the field. And his upside is crazy. For those who decry the pick, there are interior OL available in the 2nd and 3rd that would upgrade the OL.

Warford, Frederick, Jones, Armstead, Bailey etc. will all be there when Dallas picks in the 2nd, maybe even in the 3rd.

If we take a WR in the first round, I might murder somebody. :laugh2:

I'm really surprised so many of you think this would be a good idea. It's crazy talk.

You are correct. NFC Divisional round game. He played well enough to make it there. But this is beside the point.

if you watched the wild card game, you'd also know thar washington was gonna roll on seattle had rg3 not gotten injured.

so all in all, I'm waiting to see if this read option lasts for more than a year or two before I give a sub 5'11 QB credit.

This is just a question, I am not hoping to pick this guy, I would love to take the best player available instead of drafting on needs, especially when you have a hampered RB & a WR who has hamstring issues, Tavon would add a dimension that we have never had in this offense being able to line up in the backfield or wherever you ask.. I am sure you would probably trade back if Cooper/Vaccaro/Warmack were off the board & maybe Sheldon Richardson, but I am just asking in what circumstance would you draft Austin?

none at all

It sounds crazy because we dont have a need there, but this guy is an absolute play maker. Crazy speed that this team does not have.

He is a sure bet as a playmaker. I just dont trust Jerry and Co. to pick the right player. Love the drafts the past few years with Dez, Tyron Smith, Sean Lee, Carter, Demarco, Claiborne.

But what about Felix Jones, Bobby Carpenter, Jason Williams, Stephen McGee, etc.

Tavon Austin is almost a guarantee to be a differnce maker. He may not be an All-Pro, but he wont be a bust. I'd rather take the (almost) guarantee than take a player based on need and have him bust.

Austin is a top 20 player in this draft, and in a few years we may look back and say he was a top 5 player. The strength in this draft is in the trenches, and they wont get a lot of glory with the casual football fan. We love stats right?

Austin will be all over the highlight reels with returns and catches. Fans from 31 teams will be asking themselves: Why didnt we get this guy???

I would love to draft Tavon Austin at 18. I wonder if he makes it that far.

Only way I pass him up is if we can draft Warmack, Cooper, Shariff Floyd, or Star

While speed would be very nice, I'd rather not take a WR.

Dallas has what they need at that position.

OL has got to be high up on the list. Perhaps S might be worth it if the right guy is there. I'm looking OL though. Gotta get better in that area.

31st in rushing TDs over the past 3 seasons, I believe. Not cutting it.
