More than just saying "Throw him the ball Tony", I think it takes creative play calling and elite physical gifts in order to find ways to beat double-teams and bracket coverage. And I think Dez has 1 of those 2 things working for him.

I think there is one more factor.

Intelligence!

You have to be smart enough to know a number of routes etc. in order for the OC to move you around.

Does Dez have enough?

I suspect not.

So, if these stats are correct, then the question begs to be asked.

Why doesn't the play caller institute plays that hide Dez behind two other receivers in a bunched formation, or put Dez in motion, or incorportate the legal pick move to free up Dez from the doubles and maximize his TD's?

I would also like to address this point:

If Romo stays in the pocket longer, it will allow his receivers to get open downfield.

How does his staying in the pocket longer affect ther sacks he takes and increases the risk?

all good questions. jason AND romo are to blame for this mess of an offense.

Bye week project for JG........grab as much Sean Payton game tape as you can, and incorporate all the little tweaks, twists and tricks from his sets to free up the receivers over the bye week and on into the last 6 weeks you can............

And this is the usual clueless fan post, it's a little deeper then that. ;)

Tony has had his fair share of down moments this year, but don't get it twisted, so has your boy Dez along with all the other WRs. We've had a ton of drops this year, but of course you'll just say it's Romo fault. Our offensive line has also been very inconsistent this year as well, they're one of the reasons for slow starts in games.

Shallow as usual though.

dez problem is he is physical off the LOS but he lacks explosive speed off the LOS and DB's can hang with him very easily for 5 to 8 yards, and when he is about to seperate there comes the safety, therefore dez is out of the play...just my take!!

if you look at the big time WR majority of them are explosive off the LOS with there speed and dez scare's no one with his speed..

Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant are the heart and soul of the Dallas Cowboys offense, but the team isn't utilizing its talented wide receiver in the proper way. Bryant is undeniably one of the great receivers in the NFL, yet he ranks just seventh in the league in targets.

Yes, Bryant sees lots of double-teams, but do you know who else does? Every great wide receiver in the NFL. Plus, there are creative ways to get the ball to Bryant no matter the coverage, such as throwing to his back shoulder and putting him in the slot, that the Cowboys aren't utilizing.

To give you an idea of the potential yards and scores the Cowboys are leaving on the board with their mismanagement of Bryant's skill set and their inefficient play-calling in general, check out these four eye-opening stats.

Quarterback Tony Romo has eight touchdowns and one interception when targeting wide receiver Dez Bryant.

Romo can thow the ball and anyone who say it is not true is deaf.
I like it when Romo thow the ball deep and Dez catches and Ms. Busty give me a kiss to celebrate and then I ask her to stick around because Romo will thow another and we will win and she says "Gimmie, I don't want to smudge my lipistick no more."
Well, I digress.I confess. What a mess.
Anyway, the thing about Romo, see, is that he is good and stuff. But Arsenio Hall half more of a chance to seceed in late nite teevee than Romo half of winning another playoff game. I say that because he don't half a good defense. Hail, some games he can't even hook up with Mr. 2,000-yard Man Dez Bryant.
Let's hope that by next week he is back to form and Ms. Busty kisses me again.
Cowboys, heal your healths, rest up and beat the Giants because it is a winable game and stuff. Also, this East is easy to win. So I expect more wins, a 8-8 season and maybe a playoff win. Amens.

Good stuff, but I don't agree with the 'short passing' theory, considering Dallas short passing attack is extremely limited and simply sucks...

2006 line was as bad as any line Romo had play under yet we threw deep. More JG got hold of the offense, the things Romo used to great at disappeared from it.

Except the play-off game which killed us...

Getting rid of the ball quickly can be indicative of break-downs in pass protection, forcing Romo to release quickly. So that is also another selection bias. Additionally, considering a lot of our passing attack is predicated down-field, he needs to buy time to be successful.

Dez is physically gifted enough to do anything on the football field. No DB can hang with him. I dont care if hes just running a hitch route. Any DB would be overmatched. His problem is he has an OC who doesn't know how to utilize weapons. I don't care how stupid he may or may not be, they should be able to move him around and do creative things with him. They had to dumb the playbook down for Quincy Carter, and we got by for awhile. Do it for dez, but still use him in a lot of different ways. Not just lined up wide left every time. He should have 8-10 catches per game. Otherwise he should be returning punts so we can get our money's worth.

Anyone else read this and just want to stab yourself in the face? Not that it's a surprise, simply an affirmation of what you already know. The Cowboys' brain trust simply suck to epic proportions.

I do think Tony bean deprived of lots of things:
1. A good defense. Even a mediocre defense.
2. A gifted runner
3. A good game plan
4. A good O-line that dont make him thow on the move or thow before he ready.

Stab yourself in the face? That made me laugh out loud.

It's frustrating to watch the wasted opportunities on offense. Dez deserves better and so do us fans.

How about some of the legal denver Pick plays for one
