No that would be a terrible move lol.
2021 salary fully guarantees on the 5th league day of 2021 (3/21/21) (injury guaranteed now)
I don't think you actually have to wait until June 1 to designate it that way.

Although they would definitely need to do so before that 5th day.

All moot. Not gonna happen.

  • LB Jaylon Smith
  • CB Anthony Brown
  • P Chris Jones

They should all be gone. With the cap drop, free agency should be a bloodbath of players with marginal value, let alone guys clearly underperforming their contracts.

Brown wouldn't make anywhere near 5.75mil in free agency. And I'm annoyed with the analysis:
Cutting ties with the 27-year-old would save the franchise $2.75 million against the cap this season.
Grown-ups plan ahead for longer than a year. Cutting Brown saves 5.75mil in salary and cumulative cap hit that can be spent elsewhere.

Edit: Probably keep Brown. His *cap hit* is 5.75mil, but his *salary* is only 4.25mil. At least we should be in no hurry to cut him. That 4.25mil is the kind of salary we'd pay a free agent veteran CB anyway. We paid Worley 3mil. Stick with the Devil You Know.
I think there will be a lot of bargains in free agency, so maybe we just get cheaper options, like Awuzie, but Brown should probably be kept through training camp and then we see what we've got.

Jaylon should be one of the very first people to be let go but let's be real there's' absolutely no way in hell Jerry Jones would admit he messed up.

If Jerry does let him go I suggest we all go in for a lottery ticket lol

Kinda sorta not really:)

You can designate him as a June 2nd cut and eventually reap his base salary return but only come June 2nd. Even though you aren't paying him any money that year he counts against the cap like you are.
Put another way it is more costly to keep him under this plan for this year until June 2nd and then you only bought cap space between June 2nd and the next calendar year.
Which is is why it happens a lot less with teams than it does in discussions.
All the while he'd become a free agent and immediately be able to sign elsewhere while you were without the player or his cap space until June 2nd.

All in all the cheapest (versus the cap) and best for 2021 roster mgmt way to handle Jaylon is reduce his base to vet minimum and hand him a check.

I’m going on what the article stated. I wanted him gone the minute he was drafted.

Definitely cut Chris Jones.

he sucks. Can get a punter at minimum who is better.

Do not cut Anthony Brown. You will not find a replacement any cheaper in free agency.

probably stuck with Jaylon for another season until it makes sense to cut him. But I would be just fine if they do cut him.
Cut Jaydone and Jones, keep Brown around.

read the article..yes you do...

  1. " Smith as a post-June 1 cut they would clear $7.2 million in space as they can spread his dead-cap charge across the next two seasons, according to Over The Cap.

Cutting him pre-June 1 would only save $400,000, so this is an important distinction. A franchise is only permitted to have two post-June 1 cuts, but the difference would make it worth it in Smith's case. "

My fault for being unclear.

You don't need to wait until June 1 to designate a player as a June 1 cut.

Chido will cost more than ABrown and can't play both slot and outside.
He's an outside CB only.
This would be hustling backwards for sure.

They could resign Jourdan Lewis to something like 4M AAV for 3 seasons.
Play him in the slot for now and as a depth CB when he gets replaced by a better CB.
Chido is outside only? Since when?

Brown is trash. You could get a 5th round rookie to play his spot.
This is nonsense.
Dallas drafted a kid last year in round 4 who was moved to safety and basically shuffled off to only special teams.

If you can find a guy round 5 to play both slot and outsider CB as a rookie capable of starting at both you are one heck of a drafter. Ideally Dallas would get to where AB is the 4th CB but they have a heck of lot of work to do to get to that point.

The article is dumb.
The ideas are dumb and the Rules they discuss ignore timelines.

Yes you can spread the charges across 2 seasons. NO the savings doesn't take effect UNTIL June 2nd.

PER OTC:
https://overthecap.com/june-2-salary-cap-changes/
A few teams used a special rule that allows you to designate a player a post June 1 cut before June 1. The caveat is that the team has to carry the full cap charge until June 1. Now that we are at June 2, those teams will gain some much needed cap space. The following teams are the ones who gained cap room.

This again. So because we didnt see robinson play means he cant? Same team that trotted out darian thompson over donovan Wilson. No thanks.

Every 5th round corner played last year on the same level as brown. So no, its not nonsense.

Do not expect Bleacher Report or any of the lower level media outlets manned largely by cheap or free lab or to give you factual, fully thought articles.
The goal of most sites is to offer clickbait to draw ad revenue.

SOME of those writers are quite good and will flourish but they are not edited much at all and often times re NOT excellent sports journalists.
